Orienteering (Forest) 1:25:00 [2] *****
shoes: adidas swoop 2 - 3rd pair

Went out to Hannestorp with Elisabeth and we re-ran most of the course from an event last Summer. Now that it's the business end of the season I thought I'd make things harder for myself by taking an estimated 8-9kg pack... which was a mistake. Bloody hard work but good training I guess. Elisabeth did the navigating while I just tried to keep up. I did have a map and followed where we were when I wasn't blowing out of my arse.

My foot is still hurting quite a bit but it's not a show stopper like it was on Tuesday. Just a niggle now.

Walking (Terrain/XC) 45:00 [1]
shoes: adidas swoop 2 - 3rd pair

I had to admit how completely ruined I had become which was slightly embarrasing. We brisk walked back to the car.

Running hills (Road/XC) 47:10 [3] 8.5 km (5:33 / km) +465m 4:21 / km
(injured)

Parked up at Gullmarsplan on my way home from work and did 2 lengths of my hills route through Arsta forest.

23:05 - there
24:05 - back

Nearly 5 minutes quicker than last Saturday - I hesitate to log it at zone 4 because of all the steep downhill running where I couldn't keep my heart rate up because I was worried about my foot and didn't have enough grip on my ancient trail shoes for the wet surfaces. Felt fantastic, maybe I need to do some VO2 max work now because today with ultra-fresh legs I could have definitely run up those hills faster with more oxygen.

I almost stopped after the first minute because of foot pain but it got quickly better. However the next morning it felt very strange and the pain is now both sides of the foot... worrying.

Static Stretching & Massage (Static) 10:00 [0]

After giving my foot a couple of days off (where it has got better slightly) I spent some time massaging my calf muscles and stretching them. However, the pain is much more around the ankle towards the middle of the foot this time so I'm not totally convinced it's because of the tight calf. This can't hurt though.

Orienteering race (Forest) 45:00 [3] *****
(injured) shoes: adidas swoop 2 - 3rd pair

Summer Series @ Agesta.

Injured again but this time for once I didn't actually crash. I have a problem with my right foot, I think very similar to the problems I had in the Summer of 2008 where, during running, my ultra-tight right calf muscle (which I don't stretch anywhere near often enough - same old story) pulls on my ankle/foot tendons and tendonitis develops. Similar to the WOC trial middle in 2008 the pain came on suddenly and within one or two controls I was limping so badly I just couldn't run anymore. Walking back from there to the finish was uncomfortable to say the least.

Despite being a bit tired from Fri-Sun I was running pretty well - was pretty competitive comparing splits for clean legs 1, 4, 5 and 6 against runners like Andrew Quin and Assar Hellstrom so I am in fairly good shape despite my huge amounts of time off due to injury and illness this year. Still 1 to 2 mins/km down on GG's splits though and he was probably just jogging.

Well annoying to have to jack this course on a forest that I really enjoy but mistakes on 2, 3, and 7 (8 and 9 as well but I forgive myself for those as I was in a lot of pain) ranging from small to huge make it slightly easier to take as my result wouldn't have been anything special anyway.
