Note

Stayed awake the whole night with a really bad toothache so I didn't run today. Went straight to an emergency dentist after the comp and it appears I have lost another tooth. So root filling number 2 looms and from the slightly more mild pain I am getting from the other side of my mouth number 3 will surely follow soon. So 3 down, 27 to go. Take it from me kids if you don't like excrutiating pain and extortionate dentistry bills it is really important to look after your teeth.

Gutted to miss a second day amongst the Junipers. Nick and Elisabeth both came 2nd overall in M21A & W21A respectively - good work!

Orienteering race (Forest/Scrub) 1:16:30 [3] ***** 8.6 km (8:54 / km)
shoes: adidas swoop 2 - 3rd pair

13 hours 15 minutes is what it took me door to door from my parent's in Poole to Elisabeth's in Stockholm. Got there at 02:00 Friday morning and after 2 hours sleep got up, packed and we made our way to the airport to fly with Nick+SJ to Hungary for the Juniper cup weekend.

So, another country I have orienteered in. So far...

England
Wales
Scotland
Sweden
Finland
Israel
Denmark
Canada
Belgium
Norway
Hungary

Thinking about it this list would only be half as long if it wasn't for Nick - cheers buddy, nice one. Very much looking forward to adding more countries. Don't know where next? Portugal? France? Italy? Bring it on.

Anyway back to the race. Mostly ultra-technical labarinths of Juniper bushes over sand dunes with some lighting fast high-vis forest. Started 8mins in front of Nick and did really well over the first 9 controls with only one significant mistake on 6. Nick only 1 minute up at this point and this is really quite encouraging as he is currently in good shape and I hadn't run for 11 days. Felt physically quite good. Unfortunately fell apart navigationally after that and ended up 13mins down on him at the end and 18mins down on the winner.

Walking (Road/XC) 1:22:00 [1] 10.3 km (7:58 / km)

My friends Matt & Tony came out and visited me in Stockholm so we spent lots of time in forests over a long weekend trekking, mushroom picking, making fires and camping in the slightly above freezing wilderness. The highlight of which was meeting a class 1 licensed hunter called Mats whose opening line after scaring the sh1te out of us approaching our camp in the pitch black with a huge gun was...

'You scared me, I almost shot you.'

Anyway, flew back with Matt & Tony to England. Stayed at Matt's place in Bournemouth and power-stomped back to my parent's this morning. Maybe I should think about going running but walking training is obviously my priority.
