Running long (Road/XC/Terrain) 2:01:15 [2] 21.1 km (5:45 / km)

Woke up this morning still feeling very tired after the last few nights of less than necessary sleep because of being rudely woken up early by builders amongst other things. Was almost glad that I had missed both the normal and late entry deadlines for the long distance orienteering today. Took a 2 hour snooze around lunchtime, watched the online coverage of the WOC relays and then felt much better.

Decided to do some OMM training. 1/2 marathon Nacka route with usual 7.3kg pack. Didn't struggle at all today with the distance. Felt great. Overtook two pairs of MTBers but to be fair to them both times it was along a particularly wet and muddy, rooty and rocky trail (or terrain as Tim calls it).

Two main reasons why I took approx 10mins off my time from last Friday (and without the 10mins break in the middle). Firstly although I have done some intensive races the last few days in terms of hours it has pretty much been a rest week. Secondly it wasn't scorching hot - very noticable through the exposed Terminator section in split 3. Out the other side of that today the question was should I be increasing the pace rather than should I be giving up.

11:15 (2.1km) - Out
26:15 (4.5km) - 2
26:15 (4.4km) - 3
24:00 (4.3km) - 4
22:45 (3.8km) - 1
10:45 (2.1km) - Back

Orienteering race (Forest) 51:45 [4] ***** 6.1 km (8:29 / km)
shoes: adidas swoop 2 - 2nd pair

Had a second meeting with my potential new Stockholm based client today - am very optimistic about getting lots of work from them and securing my future here in Sweden :) Anyway it almost made me late for the mass start race.

Only 3 people ran the long course, I won from my club mate Niklas Wansölin (who was on the other gaffle) by just over a minute. The other guy was well down. My only big mistake was number 9 (guess 90secs). A couple other smaller wobbles. Quite easy navigation as there was lots of paths. Very hilly and the course planner was evil in relation to that. I was fast to begin with and slowed slightly as I got tired so same as yesterday basically.

Orienteering race (Forest) 41:00 [4] ***** 4.8 km (8:32 / km)

Luffarligan starts again! Back to paradise again! The first of five races this week to sharpen me up a bit. Middle today, mass start middle tomorrow, two sprints on Friday then a rest day and finally a long on Sunday.

Felt really fresh, went out fast... eyeballs out. Slowed down a bit on the long leg to 6 so maybe I went out a bit too fast. Felt like I was above threshold - not good for keeping composure. Analysis...

1. Took a bad route through some marshy light green (no surprise - getting to be a bad habit of mine) and then got confused with the hill shapes out the other side.
2. Spiked - another runner (1) came in from a weird angle to punch just behind me - guess I had caught him up.
3. Good up until the circle and then very hesitant - runner 1 caught me back up here and knew what he was doing - I was well short on a parallel feature.
4. Nearing the flag I had a good line but changed it to match runner 1 who then changed his line to my original one and punched just before me.
5. Spiked - took a better route than runner 1 and got back in front.
6. Long leg - terrible route. Changed my mind a lot. Runner 1 probably well ahead by the time I punched... just after a different runner (2).
7. Spiked - easy short leg - followed straight.
8. Spiked - runner 2 still in sight but I kept contact and kept the gap the same.
9. Spiked - runner 2 missed - I punched just before.
10. Long leg - dismissed the obvious path route as too much height to drop - bad mistake although my route was a lot more interesting. Kept in touch all the way linking up marshes.
11. Spiked.
Run-in. There was no finish marked on my map - the course just ended at 11 and I was too stupid to follow the tapes to the finish punch. Walked for a bit thinking I'd finished.

Found runner 2 at the download so he obviously chose a much better route to 10, I guess the path option. In conclusion very happy with my new speed of late - starting to get proper fast for me. Very unhappy with my mistakes - probably should have been 35mins which I would have been over the moon with.

Note
weight:84.3kg

Had been wondering how light I was at the moment. The equivalent of 13 stone 3.5 pounds - very comparable to the last time I was this skinny in Dec 09. I won't get much lighter than this (not much more fat to come off), maybe I could lose another kilo but I can't see that happening without a change in diet and I can't see that happening.

Static Stretching & Massage (Static) 13:00 [0]

Core Stability (Floor/Standing) 40:00 [1]

Motivated by Dids' comment on Bendover's log regarding how core workouts are good for fat burning - I need all the help I can get! Felt like I was breathing harder today, doing the balance exercises towards the end of the workout was proper comedy! Quite specific training for terrain running when tired I guess. 8*13, 7 ff.
