Running (Road/XC) 1:14:30 [2]

Two Swedes Cummin Absolut hash #592 from Mariehamn (10). Achieved my strange goal of taking myself to the point of overuse injury - right shin near the ankle started to flare up on some of the downhills. A real struggle to even jog at times. Time for a couple of rest days.

Fantastic weekend, lots of boat trips, beers, good food and good company.

Orienteering (Forest) 1:15:30 [2] *****
shoes: adidas swoop 2 - 2nd pair

Long distance training on the Nacka Reserve with Mattias my landlord and his friend Thomas.

For the second time in my orienteering life I got attacked by wasps. The three of us were running quite close to each other, Thomas first and me in the middle. I heard Thomas yelp and then I felt the pain... everywhere. We both legged it as fast as possible and at the same time heard Mattias screaming that we should have warned him. Stung behind the left ear in two places, on the back, twice on the left arm, once on the right and once on each leg (which weren't so bad through the o-trousers - the little fuckers were still hanging on when we stopped like hundreds on metres further on). So 8 stings in total I think. It was weird - everywhere was throbbing so much it was hard to work out exactly where the stings were.

Didn't feel so great after that (a bit sick) and to be honest wasn't enjoying it, just wanted it to be over. On about the hour mark I went for a slash and bizarrely felt much better. Then we ran off the map.

After some running on the compass we found a lake and thought about running around it. However, we had lost Mattias and walked around a bit looking for him. Found him and he had twisted his ankle (incidently I had almost gone over on my dodgy ankle twice but it bounced back both times :) only done three sessions of balancing exercises). So we took the key, upped the pace and ran str8 back home via the trails.

Note

So after inspection there seem to be multiple sting marks around where I already knew I'd been stung and in some other areas too. Maybe as many as 20. Of course I may be mistaking previous mozzie bites for new wasp stings but I don't think so - they look slightly different.

So I have several different varieties flying around me when I'm trying to work/sleep (God knows why Mattias doesn't have nets living next to a forest), ditto when I'm orienteering and now this. I f-ing hate flying insects - I'm going to kill them all, and not just the men...

Duty Free/Sonja Underground hash #823 (28) from Akershov. After eating/drinking pretty much non-stop since finishing my duties felt alright. After two strong beers at the drink stop felt f-ing ace.

That's more like it hours-wise.

Orienteering race (Forest) 26:30 [4] ***** 3.3 km (8:02 / km)
shoes: vj supra

Was going to put in some serious hours today but I didn't realise today's race was a middle and they wouldn't let me run the longest course - not enough maps. Probs a good thing though because I slept realy badly last night (for some reason) and having said that I felt fine after long sessions on Sat/Sun my thighs have just ached more and more ever since. But having said that I actually ran proper fast (at times my lungs were burning!)... in the wrong direction mostly.

Lost time on 8/10 controls and if I was being really picky I could find small fault with the other 2 as well. Anyway the worst was a complete miss at 9 (90secs) which kinda ruins your result on a sprint race. Caught this old dude up at 6 and he finished just before me - says it all. Anyway came 2/71 in the open 7 class. Sounds great eh? Until you compare that with the M18's (5/9) and M45's (8/39) who ran the same course :( More concentration required.
8 PM

Orienteering (Forest) 22:30 [2]
shoes: vj supra

Went without a compass and after missing the fourth lost my bearings and ran in completely the wrong direction to the fifth. Fortunately I came across a part of the forest I recognised and sorted it but was worried about my control collecting partner having to wait for me at my locked car. Fortunately he got proper lost as well but his excuse was better - after tearing the map into two he didn't actually have the bit of map with the car park on it.

So not even an hour today. Decent sleep tonight hopefully and I'll proper abuse myself tomorrow.

No training today - the calm before the storm. Did help Nick move house though.
