Running (Road/XC/Terrain) 40:45 [2] 7.21 km (5:39 / km) +190m 5:00 / km

Shap - Swindale North (21/09/08 M21L number 2). Ran as if doing yesterday's route backwards but after Keld continued on the road, turned right onto the Burnbanks road and just after crossing Swindale Beck ran due W onto the Swindale N map and then navigated to number 2 on the M21L course from the regional event last September.

Orienteering (Open Fell) 48:30 [3] **** 6.11 km (7:56 / km) +260m 6:33 / km
spiked:11/13c

Swindale North. Ran numbers 2 to 14 of the 21/09/08 M21L course. I didn't actually run the event but did run the course the day after absolutely binning the RAB MM. So was obv a bit slower back then and maybe that's why I missed 7 and 12 today. I remember feeling a bit lucky I got 7 last time so hope it wasn't my fault I overshot it - things stopped making sense just b4 the circle. 12 just drifted SE up this reentrant and had to make a hard left. Moorland areas are good when there's this much contour and rock about.

Running (XC/Terrain) 1:06:15 [1] 7.94 km (8:21 / km) +250m 7:13 / km

Swindale North (21/09/08 M21L number 14) - Swindale Beck/Black Crag Gill Junction. Getting tired now, walking up the hills and thru the deep powder bits. Plan was to take bridleway back rather than the same way I came out the udder day. Not for variety, just to get back as quick as poss. Stupid idea loadsa snow everywhere - track no different to terrain. Map memory didn't quite go as sweet as Tue tho as soon realised I had drifted way too far S and was in danger of being the terrain side of the Wet Sleddale Reservoir - came in that way on the KIMM 2005 it's not where you wanna be when you're wasted I remembered that much. So contoured across the terrain and back down into what I thought was the Sleddale valley with the intention of getting to a big track b4 it got proper dark.

Walking (Road) 35:30 [1] 4.06 km (8:45 / km) +35m 8:23 / km

Swindale Beck/Black Crag Gill Junction - Swindale Beck/Burnbanks Road Junction. Reckon done enuff running for one day so happy on the big track b4 it got dark as planned broke out the emergency rations (caramel Rocky bar - kept for the seemingly very likely event I would do summit really stupid and be out for longer than planned) and power stomped it towards the reservoir... or so I thought. Wondering when I would eventually come across it eventually came across summit else, summit unexpected - a crossroads and a signpost to Bampton! Oh fuck. So I was on the right track after all - about 2km from the reservoir when I lost the plot. Had a compass in me pocket too dozy fukka. What really takes the bizkit tho is that I'd more or less walked the whole of the Swindale valley thinking it was Sleddale. Impressive.

Running (Road) 7:45 [3] 1.45 km (5:21 / km) +60m 4:26 / km

Burnbanks Road. So started running again to keep warm and to try and get home quick (estimated about an hour to walk) but it was no use, really couldn't be arsed.

Walking (Road/XC/Terrain) 41:00 [1] 4.61 km (8:54 / km) +40m 8:31 / km

Burnbanks Road - Shap. So if you wanna force yourself into some extra training when you're knackered go out into the snowy fells without a map, without any sense of direction and let it get dark. Probs also helps to be a bit of an idiot too. I swear hadn't a clue how cudda got back into the Swindale valley, due N from where I was after going due S to get out of it. When I got back to the map it became obvious... and very embarrassing...

Running tempo (Road/XC/Terrain) 32:00 [4] 6.5 km (4:55 / km) +105m 4:33 / km

Shap. Same route as Tues evening but this time on me lonesome and quite a bit faster. Felt tired esp into the headwind at the beginning and thru the powder/up the hills. Went wrong slightly (all looks different in the daylight) not sure if that made it shorter/longer but defo added climb. Finished really fast.

Cycling (Road/XC/Terrain) 31:00 [2] 7.9 km (3:55 / km)

Shap - Rosgill - ? Brief MTB session until Alan broke his bike and had to take mine (actually his as well) back to the house to get the car leaving me in the freezing cold looking for rear mech screws in the snow and mud.

Running long (Road/XC/Terrain) 2:44:45 [2] 24.14 km (6:49 / km) +655m 6:01 / km

Shap - Swindale - Burnbanks - Shap. Massif jog with 5kg pack - just awesome, esp first split thru the powder. Was gutted when had to leave Stockholm but think I'll get over it...

Running (Road/XC/Terrain) 47:00 [1] 6.6 km (7:07 / km) +95m 6:39 / km

Shap. Active recovery with Alan. What with a 4km walk to the shop b4 and a 2km walk to the pub after... almost 37km on foot today - had this stupid idea of quickly knocking out another 5km b4 bed to make it up to the marathon, but then I was a little drunk.
