Orienteering race (Forest) 1:24:16 [3] *** 11.5 km (7:20 / km) +325m 6:25 / km
spiked:19/28c

Park Wood & Naphill Common. Haha what a joke. Woke up just after 7am (badly needing to wring out a Katy) wondering how the team were doing. I had a faint recollection of some kind of problem with our handicapped plight - Rob (our leg 4 runner) had tried to alert me to the situation during the night but I wasn't really interested seeing as he had assembled himself not in the obvious place to allow me to sleep on i.e. his car but right next to me in the tent, thanks for that.

After watching Craney drive off for breakfast after anchoring the SYO team to the win I was somewhat surprised to see Rob coming in to change over to Dale. A quick chat with Rob revealed that our 2nd leg runner had taken almost 3.5hours for the 5.5km. That's, that's erm... I don't know what mins/km that is. Nobody does.

So I ate a bit of chocolate cake from Wilfs whilst watching the first mass start including our leg 6 runner. I say mass start but I've seen more people go off together in a moderately populated minute at a national event. The next mass start consisted of even less runners. Well, just me actually. No point in doing myself in so I didn't run off at full o-ing intensity thinking that a slightly slower approach would mean a lot more spikes. Wrong. Continued from where I left off yesterday in a proper dopey fashion, missing 1 and then ignoring the path leading more or less str8 to 2. Missed 4, 9 and 25, took a stupid route to 6, 10, 16 and esp 20. I can navigate better than that it's just, I don't wanna.

Orienteering race (Forest) 30:17 [4] *** 4.6 km (6:35 / km) +170m 5:33 / km
spiked:9/13c

Bloom Wood. Started off navigating perfectly... to number 2. Went to run to 6 after 3, realised quickly. Missed 9, missed 12 badly. Total time loss 2.75mins - not good. A special well done to Tim who can actually orienteer after all.

Orienteering race (Forest) 30:33 [4] *** 4.0 km (7:38 / km) +115m 6:41 / km
spiked:8/15c

Bloom Wood. The short number 1 caught me out, bit hesistant to 2, missed 4 by a bit, 5 by a lot. Chose I think the right route to 6 i.e. str8 but maybe a bit too str8 as hit the middle of the fence and had to run around. Missed 13 badly and then ran to 15, then missed 14. Jogged in after that. Total time loss 5.5mins - not good at all.

Running warm up/down (XC/Terrain) 25:00 [2] 3.0 km (8:20 / km)

Followed Nick around collecting some controls.

Running (Road/XC) 49:17 [3] 9.9 km (4:59 / km) +145m 4:38 / km

Canford Heath. Couldn't resist another blast after enjoying yesterday so much. Started off at an easy pace but quickly turned it steady.

Strength Training (Barbell) 22:30 [1]

5*20...

IP - 22.5kg
LP - 9 (Ringwood)
FP - 30kg

Running (Road/XC) 25:20 [2] 4.3 km (5:53 / km) +75m 5:25 / km

Canford Heath. Proper easy run to try and loosen off legs sooo tender from yesterday's leg workout. Heath is beautiful at the mo - I guess no more than any other nice and varied area as we come into the Summer months but for me it is more special being an area I have trained on for decades. A mysterious mist slightly reducing the visibility added to the effect.

Cycling warm up/down (Road) 15:00 [2] 4.9 km (3:04 / km)

Down to G's place b4 and back up to mine after.

1) 6:15
2) 8:45

Cycling tempo (Road) 59:45 [3] 26.3 km (2:16 / km) +145m 2:13 / km

Clifton - Failand - Stone-Edge Batch - Nailsea - Wraxall - Failand - Clifton. With G on his new bike, £2K of carbon fibre weighing in at around 13lbs - nearly half the weight of my bike. I gotta get me one of those, mind u just some aerobars would be nice. Did a test riding right in the slipstream and then out alongside - no difference whatsoever haha! The air just goes right over his head/back and into my chest!

More climb than yesterday but less wind. Neither of us had a speedo and for a change I couldn't be ar5ed to record time stopped at traffic lights/in queues which was a lot - we left at 17:20!

Running (Road/XC) 39:00 [3] 8.2 km (4:45 / km)

The Downs. Steady run with G from his place 5mins or so after getting off the bikes. Apparently too long in some peoples opinions to be a proper brick session. Right ankle okish, left knee not really okish so it looks like 8days off running while I had a cold didn't really help. 85mins of o-ing on Sat no probs but a mere 40mins on road/grass has left the bottom of my knee cap proper tender again. Might have to restrict myself to only terrain running over the next 8 weeks b4 the Saunders.

Cycling (Road) 20:00 [2] 6.9 km (2:54 / km)

Popped into Bristol centre and back. Feel a bit guilty logging this as trainig but hey I got changed and timed it so av it! Looks like I'm proper chilling on the way back but it's slightly longer due to a couple of one-way bits, uphill all the way and my rucksac had gained a car battery charger. Long live the Schnitzer!

1) 8:10
2) 11:50

Cycling tempo (Road) 1:05:00 [3] 29.9 km (2:10 / km) +95m 2:08 / km

Redland - Henbury - Hallen - Severn Beach - Pilning - Easter Compton - Hallen - Henbury - Redland. Wanted to do some exercise but didn't really want to run on the ankle plus yesterday had obviously brought my cold back slightly (I was yellow snotting again this morning) so didn't want to get the heart rate too high either. So bike it was then. Did something similar to Saturday but chose a different road to get from Severn Beach back to Hallen that unfortunately hadn't been built yet - bottoms. Was just as sunny as Saturday but not anywhere near as calm. Weather.co.uk reckons 23km/h NE which unsurprisingly was at its worst going NE up the A403.
