Note
(sick)

Nooooo, I don't understand, this kinda thing doesn't happen to me. I thought it was impossible. I have a proper cold, in May - a totally ar5e-backwards concept. It took a while working out when the last time was, Sept 2006 I think. Being ill = good for knee, bad for fat.

Cycling (Road) 34:00 [2] 15.0 km (2:16 / km)

To UWE - Frenchay campus and back. More uphill and wind on the way back...

1) 16:15
2) 17:45

Running long (Road/XC) 1:42:40 [2] 18.2 km (5:38 / km)

Leigh Woods, Ashton Court. Was gonna do a longer loop in Ashton Court to make up 2hrs but decided to cut it short cause of left knee woe. Just as the problems at the bottom of the cap seemed to be getting better I go and whack it on my clothes horse (long story - Jean-Luc Picard's fault) exactly the same spot as the February impact. F it hurt and hasn't stopped hurting since - must've been a proper hard whack originally, perfectly in the wrong place to be so weak still. I f-ing give up I really do.

Anyway after 70mins or so it got too much. Stopped and gave it a good rub (the knee) for 5mins and set off again even slower b4 working it back up to easy pace. It was 20mins b4 I even felt it again after that so I guess not gonna be a long term problem.

Running back across the suspender bridge some joker coming towards me on a bike thought he could carry on cycling past me (it's very narrow), dunno why he wasn't on the road. Just as he gets close his handlebars scrape on the suicide prevention railings and I end up punching him proper hard in the shoulder/arm or summit. I don't usually run with clenched fists but I had my keys in my hand - sorry buddy haha!

To gym.

Strength Training (Cables) 45:00 [1]
weight:85.6kg

Even tho I was only working upper body thought it best to do a full set of dynamic stretches to try and loosen up the old glutes that were giving me grief during the night every time I turned (which is a lot I am a proper fidget - sharing a dorm in a hostel with me is not recommended what with those creaky bunks) over.

3*20, 15+5, 10+10 CF - G7

4*20, 15+5 IP - 25kg
5*20 CR - 22.5kg

Whoa haven't squat 100kg for a long time and it was proper heavy! Also proper slow so probs better to do half/quarter squats at that weight/reps to be worthwhile. Maintained a fast action up to 80kg tho.

Cycling warm up/down (Road) 13:15 [2] 5.9 km (2:15 / km) +10m 2:14 / km

To gym. Only half way into my potentially perilous journey and some black clouds were looming up ahead. As the fear of getting wet began to take its hold I gradually increased the energy being transferred from my legs into the asphalt. Then came the first drop. Then the second and my destination was in sight. A mere shower? Or was I doomed to be leaking rain water from my trainers in between exercises? Find out in the next gripping adventure of...

Strength Training (Barbell) 22:30 [1]
weight:86.4kg

3*20, 15+5, 10+10 UC - 12.5kg+bar

Cycling warm up/down (Road) 15:15 [3] 6.3 km (2:25 / km) +95m 2:15 / km

From gym. Proper attacked BVR and still had loadsa go left at the top. Feeling really bright last night and this morning and can't wait for the session 2nite - bring it on!

Running warm up/down (Road/XC) 23:50 [2] 4.8 km (4:58 / km)

Easy to Ashton Court.

Running hills (XC) 24:42 [5] 4.0 km (6:11 / km) +400m 4:07 / km

5*0.8km & 80m...

1) 4:57
2) 5:00
3) 4:55
4) 4:54
5) 4:56

Walking (XC) 32:56 [1] 4.0 km (8:14 / km)

Recoveries. Thought I'd better brisk walk back downhill each time so as not to aggravate the knee problem. Seemed to work - try a slow jog next time.

1) 6:47
2) 6:30
3) 6:29
4) 6:33
5) 6:37

Running warm up/down (XC/Road) 30:25 [1] 4.8 km (6:20 / km)

Recovery from Ashton Court. Knee felt a bit dodgy on the pavement across the suspender bridge but ok after that. Defo less sore now than it was after the run last nite so it looks like I can get away with this sort of session - sweet. Might have to take a gel or summit with me next time cause blood-sugar was low on the way back which resulted in a banana milk frenzy once home. Mmm, tasty.

Running (Road/XC) 1:04:15 [3] 12.7 km (5:04 / km)

Ashton Court. Well attended Monday night run club with Tim, Mark S, Keith, Mark's mate Doug and for the first time in ages Matt!!! Matt was a bit late meeting us over the suspender bridge and everyone else suggested that we run without him (nobody likes Matt). I suggested that we do a few hills while waiting cause I like running with Matt - he went to UWE so is quite hard and that always comes in handy when things get a bit ruff in these troubled times.

At first one or two of us were a little apprehensive (especially Tim after a bit of dirt splashed onto his leg) but as the run went on a it was clear everyone was feeling a special comradery being a member of the Monday night run club. Gaining momentum every minute we pushed ourselves to the limit by running up hills and on muddy tracks with puddles, on purpose!

As with everything else in life nothing good lasts forever and as the dodgy feeling in my left knee gradually got worse I decided to call it a day when we got back to Matt's car. I have to admit there was a tear in my eye watching the others run on but once back home some comforting words from Tim and a pepperoni pizza left me feeling all warm inside again.
