Cycling long (Road) 3:52:50 [2] 94.7 km (2:28 / km)

Bristol to Blanford Forum with G-Thing. Got up at 06:45 and did some final packing and bike checks, got a phone call just after 8 from G's wife Tash saying he was too pissed to cycle to Bath let alone Bournemouth so I went back to bed. Got another phone call at 09:30 from G himself and it was back on! He eventually turned up at my gaff at 10:30 and stank of something not entirely unlike whisky bumping into doors and dropping bags etc. After drving over to his place (Tash drove, G just shouted out the window at people, generally) and packing the car we had a coffee and set off about 11:30, some 3 hours late.
We had both done this b4, G 2 or 3 times and me once each way - we agreed that it was easier to do this way as it gets the Mendips out the way first. It still doesn't stop it from hurting like a bitch tho. By the time we were 30km into it approaching Shepton Mallet I knew I wasn't going to arrive in Poole all that well, if at all. Then there was a lot of down, some down and some more down and did I mention some down? This lifted our spirits and I felt confident even when we eventually went back uphill at Castle Cary. Then the hills chilled Winston, and the next 15km went really quick under the A303 (half-way point) and on towards Sturminster Newton. We stopped a few km b4 and had a Nutri-Grain and a Jimmy and unfortunately had to admit that we weren't going to make it within daylight hours. A problem for me without any lights so a phonecall was made and we were being picked up the other side of Blanford Forum just over 20km from our destination. Just as well really cause the way I felt on the last few hills I think I wudda been walking.
Full respect to G considering he had loads less sleep, loads more alcohol and we only did the equivalent of just over half of the cycle ride in his Ironman triathlon he does every year, oh and he does 3.8km of swimming b4 and 26.2miles of running after. To be fair to me tho I have only been cycling again since Monday and my bike is a fitness bike and his is a racer - much more aerodynamic and slightly lighter.

Rowing warm up/down (Indoor) 30:00 [2] 6.7 km (4:29 / km)

Maintenance session.

Running (Road/XC) 30:27 [2] 5.6 km (5:26 / km) +10m 5:23 / km

To gym with 3.3lbs pack. Bristol to Poole cycle postponed until tomorrow so jogged today for some sort of variation. I'd kinda forgotten that I usually get shin probs when running on roads so I ran thru the Downs today so as not to remind myself.

Strength Training (Barbell/Cables) 1:00:00 [1]
weight:86.4kg

Now I remember why I don't run thru the Downs on route to the gym, cause I don't take spare shoes with me. Tried to knock most of the mud off but inevitably gave the David Lloyd cleaners a bit more work to do.

Mostly 5*20...

FP - 32.5kg
BOR - 12.5kg+bar
OP - Y1
LP - R4
SF - G2
RF - Y4
BF - G3
1*20, 4*10 CF - G7

Started off with the two exercises I missed on Wednesday. The chest cable machine is getting a bit juddery like the Multi Cross Over was in Leeds. Not the best knackered at the end of a tough session.

Running warm up/down (Road/XC) 30:24 [2] 5.6 km (5:26 / km) +95m 5:00 / km

From gym with pack. I know I wasn't going that fast (saving energy for tomorrow) but I didn't feel any resistance at all going up Bridge Valley Road today - it felt exactly the same as flat. A good sign that all the strength training is paying off.

Cycling long (Road) 1:47:30 [2] 40.0 km (2:41 / km)

Thought I'd better go for a longish ride to see whether I'm being chicken oriental planning to cycle over 70 miles in 2 days time. Should just about make it as I coped ok today and obviously I won't be doing a leg workout on Friday.
Route was from gym to A37 (I'll do the same thing on Friday but turn South towards Shepton Mallet) and turned North back towards Brizzle. The endless stream of lorries etc was a bit nasty but I thought it won't be long untill the ring road and then let rip anti-clockwise all the way to Filton b4 taking the B4056 back to Redland. However it wasn't to be because of a red triangle sign with a bike on it and I was forced onto the dreaded...
Ring Road Cycle Path - serious cyclists should avoid at all costs! At first it wasn't so bad but then all sorts of obstacles to get in ure way: give ways, bridges, housing estates, anti-vehicle bars, sometimes bikes on the left, sometimes on the right, sometimes not split and pedestrians/dogs generally walking in the bike side when it is split, inconsistently signed, apart from that it was perfect.

Cycling warm up/down (Road) 12:20 [1] 5.9 km (2:05 / km) +10m 2:04 / km

To gym. Finally got paid so my bike has some brand new tyres with red walls that match the red stickers on my rims. Had forgotten just how amazing cycling is - just feels great going proper fast and overtaking cars etc.

Strength Training (Cables) 1:00:00 [1]
weight:86.1kg

Mostly 5*20...

1*20, 4*10 AB - G1
AD - Y3
3*20, 2*15 CF - G7
BF - G3
HF - Y2
GL - Y2
SF - G2
RF - Y4

So maybe it was nothing to do with being tired from the glute exercise why I found doing abductor exercises on the Multi Cross Over bloody hard last week. This week I thought I would start really light at G2 and I could hardly do that. Alright, G1 then, got to 10 and almost fell over. It is amazing how much difference there is between these exercises standing up with cables attached to your ankles and seated, fully supported on machines. I actually have slightly more weight with abductor than adductor on the machines whereas today I've established with cables 5*10 at G1 is hard on abductor and to be honest 5*20 at Y3 is still a bit too easy on adductor!

Should've really done another 4 exercises but I was too excited about cycling home! Oh well just have to cycle down again tomorrow.

Cycling warm up/down (Road) 19:05 [1] 6.3 km (3:02 / km) +95m 2:49 / km

From gym. Hmm, cycling downhill lot faster than up methinks.

Running (Road/XC) 1:13:00 [3] 15.6 km (4:41 / km)

Ashton Court. Monday night run with Tim and Mark S. Nice to run at an even pace for a change, not nice to run with indigestion from eating leftover pizza after lunch. Burping it up most of the way round messed with me breathing and had to stop a couple of times to get rid of a stitch - sorry guys. Also had probs with me left foot 2nd toe again which seems to get done in by the big one next to it with me current Adidas trainers. I h8 when things that could have easily been avoided get in the way of enjoying a session so next time eat a sodding normal lunch and put a plaster on that toe!
