Note
(injured)

Lower back locking up again, came on around lunchtime. My fault, wasn't sensible yesterday evening - ran the hills too hard and didn't recover the muscles.

Hills route...
1. 36:15 (17:40, 18:35)

Felt really good today so gave it the beans! Best time for 1 lap since nearly a year ago. Surprise.

Running (xc/terrain) 34:20 [4] 4.8 km (7:09 / km)
ahr:159 max:170 shoes: walsh pb trainer

By the late-afternoon I had a pretty clear head so thought about doing some exercise. Decided to power-walk the hills route with the emphasis on the left leg, to continue building the muscle back up (yes it is still smaller than the right leg, almost 2 years later).

This did not go well however and my left knee started hurting a lot around the bottom of the cap, where I broke it. This is not the first time I have felt this kind of pain recently, I remembered going for a walk one day and it suddenly coming on and couldn't put load through the knee without it hurting lots. Weird. However I also remembered that it went away as suddenly as it came. So I went back home, changed my shoes and went for a run instead (with no particular emphasis on any leg) which went ok!

Most of my benchmark terrain route, in the end once I'd realised that my left knee was coping fine I actually pushed fairly hard. This was not sustainable in terms of my right ankle however. Frying pan into the fire like.

Orienteering race (forest) 1:04:25 [4] 6.2 km (10:23 / km)
ahr:159 max:177 shoes: inov-8 oroc 280 red - 2nd pair

Kvarnsjötrippeln, dag 3 - H40 5.3km (22/34)

Very similar to yesterday, definitely the best few days since the headaches began. Very tired but happy :)

Orienteering race (forest) 1:32:30 [4] 9.0 km (10:17 / km)
ahr:162 max:175 shoes: inov-8 oroc 280 red - 2nd pair

Kvarnsjötrippeln, dag 2 - H40 7.7km (17/25)

Onto the Saturday event, much more risky being a usual, morning start but I actually didn't wake up with that much of a headache! Left it as late as I could to make sure I was ok and when a bad headache didn't materialise I took 400mg Ibuprofen for the ankle.

Fairly reasonable navigation again, physically ok again, ankle better with the anti-inflammatory. Was worried about making the distance but managed it. Tired.

Running warm up/down (xc) 6:50 [2] 1.1 km (6:13 / km)
ahr:136 max:152 shoes: inov-8 oroc 280 red - 2nd pair

Orienteering race (forest) 34:10 [4] 3.6 km (9:29 / km)
ahr:163 max:177 shoes: inov-8 oroc 280 red - 2nd pair

Kvarnsjötrippeln, dag 1 - H40 2.9km (10/20)

Wasn't looking forward to this, had entered all 3 races just before the headaches started. At least it was an evening event and by the time we were driving there I had a clear head. Problem was that I wasn't running first and looking after Hugo was stressful and the headache started to come back.

So eventually jogged off to the start and expected to have to jog straight back again but actually my headache was gone in 5 minutes of warming up. Result, running is the new prescription!

Really enjoyed myself. Navigated pretty well too, just one significant mistake losing a couple of minutes.

Physically ok apart from right ankle - not good.

Note

At the DR's again today and after explaining my symptoms in more detail she decided that it didn't actually sound like tension/migraine headache and promptly sent me to A&E. Lots of tests and fortunately nothing serious found but they still want to do a brain MRI and investigate the possibility of sleep apnea. Joy.

ahr:152 max:172 shoes: walsh pb trainer

So I've been going through a pretty tough period, a bad headache every morning. The DR says it is a combo between tension and migraine and prescribed me aspirin to take before I sleep each night.

The headaches are generally better by late afternoon/evening and I felt so good tonight that I just had to get out into the hills. We are on a mini-break staying with some friends in their mountain cabin, very remote, very beautiful.

Physically a bit flat as expected, ankle not happy but the session did not give me a headache which I guess is pretty positive!

Rowing (indoor) 20:35 [2] 5.0 km (4:07 / km)
ahr:136 max:162

Cycling (road) 24:40 [3] 10.5 km (2:21 / km) +65m 2:17 / km

Good session, fairly hard on the rower then pushed basically as hard as possible on the bike - this gave me a headache however.
