Note

The one thing I wish Inov-8 would add to their off-trail series shoes is a closed tongue, like my Adidas Adizero XTs have. Really works well to keep the little rocks out of the shoes. Not a problem when wearing gaiters, but when just on the trail it can be a problem. I guess their solution is small debris gaiters, but it's so much easier if they're integrated into the shoe.

Running tempo (Trail) 31:04 intensity: (11:32 @1) + (11:16 @2) + (4:42 @3) + (3:34 @4) 3.54 mi (8:47 / mi) +394ft 7:56 / mi
ahr:146 max:173 shoes: Inov-8 Mudclaw 265

Cool and sleety, so I wore long johns, and they bound a bit around my knees, which made me feel sluggish ... didn't have my heart in this 'tempo' ... can barely call it that, but what the heck. :)

NEW SHOES!!

Inov-8 Mudclaw 265s for $85 on Amazon. They performed admirably (very very solid!) in today's poor conditions (wet, muddy leaves, lots of puddles, etc.). Crum Woods has some of the toughest trail I know, and I wasn't moving too slowly, but never felt out of traction or control. Only poor performance on slick wood surfaces, as expected for a non-spiked shoe.

I think I'm going to like these new beasts. The over-padded tongue is strange, but kind of nice, like little pillows for the tops of my feet. We'll see how they do on longer runs ... they felt a bit 'flat', like cleats.
