Note

My god, I just noticed my vdot. Sigh.

Note

And I forgot to mention the orienteering: felt strong, but was wobbly mentally. Lots of small to medium mistakes, probably 12 minutes? I'll investigate further once RG is up.

Note

RouteGadget posted from FCN ... pretty comical if you watch the whole thing, particularly my hanging around at the Finish between laps. I really did make a LOT of small/medium mistakes.

CTLERRNOTE

Fclean
TTL15.5not counting yellowjacket 'error'

So 51 minutes of errors including stopping at the finish for a while ... would have done okay if I had just kept my cool ... tough to do with the wasps upset with me. 15.5 minutes of 'real' errors though, ugh. Was running ~10min/k w/o errors. +1 minute talking to Robert Frank and making sure that he was okay (bloody nose from horsefly bite!!).

Radnor Red Run Steeplechase

Rained just before, so the humidity was brutal. New shoes were excellent, I did slip once but other folks were all over the place. I was hoping for sub-23, even hoping for maybe sub-22. I'll have to actually train if I want to perform well in the summer heat/humidity in the future.

64th of 399 finishers.

Wanderers did well! Polly #1! Others Right up there in the pack.

Real 5.6mi

Humid but cooler in the woods. Felt surprisingly strong leg-wise ... definitely need more lungs.

Between 17 & 18 I fell and my hand went into the leaf-litter. When I pulled it out, it was covered with yellowjackets which quickly attacked my legs (thank god I wasn't in shorts), other arm, and back, and buzzed me good. VERY scary! Like a horror movie. I ran around cursing for a bit, dropped my compass and map, squashing bees, and ended up being too scared of the swarm to go back for my stuff until after heading to the finish and getting my clothes all off.

I tried to go from 17 to 18 without a map or compass, but over the few-hundred meter shot I was off by about 50 meters, and didn't remember what the control was supposed to be on, etc. Ended up going back for my map & compass, finished the course, with a nice 43 minutes on #18.

If I'd just toughed out the stings and picked up my gear I would have won too!

Stings are surprisingly achy, particularly under my arms.

Orienteering warm up/down 18:28 [2] ** 1.25 mi (14:46 / mi) +197ft 12:51 / mi
shoes: Inov-8 Mudroc 290

Back out to grab my map & compass. Saw the bees coming out of their hole, but managed to grab my stuff and hightail it out of there first. Finished the last couple of controls too.

I'll put my tracks together for a crazy track on RouteGadget. :)

Note
(rest day)

Feeling a bit porky but not too bad for the race on Sunday ... wish it was tomorrow instead of the same day as French Creek North.

Read back over my log for the last ~year. I need to be more consistent.

Bought myself the XC spikes I never had as a HS XC runner, some Puma Complete Haraka XCS spikes in Yellow/Red:

Now I have to do some more short stuff.
