Note

4 pull-ups. Training is paying off. :)
12 PM

Running long (Street (Z2)) 1:00:01 intensity: (23:39 @1) + (17:02 @2) + (13:01 @3) + (3:24 @4) + (2:55 @5) 7.2 mi (8:20 / mi) +719ft 7:37 / mi
ahr:150 max:217 shoes: Adidas adiZero Mana 5

Hahah check out my max HR. You can tell a nice dry day when the HR monitor goes bonkers for the first mile. Sigh. Tried to hit Z2 for the run, but had a hard time staying up there in the first half. Whatever, I had fun. :)

Anyone know if the newer, smaller (gen 2?) Garmin HR monitor has the same problem? If not I just might have to spring for one.

Random Skuke/Fairmount run. Didn't mean to go quite so far ... somehow missed the bridge I intended to cross.

Nice day out there! More of this would be excellent.

Note

PR for the 3-lap cemetery route. And I even went .1 farther, getting the 5k in there just to see (24:15, just fine), and was going very slowly after that. Wish I'd had my HR strap, I wasn't really pushing it.
11 AM

Running tempo (Grass) 33:55 [4] 4.21 mi (8:03 / mi) +377ft 7:26 / mi
shoes: Adidas adiZero Mana 5

Perfect day for a little tempo. Wasn't planning on it, but found myself going pretty fast over to the cemetery, so just kept going.

Felt good!

Bummed that my Asics Piranha SP 3s were just a hair too small. Sent back today, hopefully they still have the next 1/2 size up in stock, as they were 'liquidation' shoes. Fingers crossed! That said, there are several others I wouldn't mind trying at all, like the Brooks T7s, or Inov-8 Road-X Lite 155s.

But the Piranhas have promise. They're so light: 4.7oz. Ridiculous.

Note

Adjusted all Crum runs to the wheel-measured distances. Now we need altimeter measured climb.
2 PM

Running long (Trail) 1:16:58 intensity: (21:51 @1) + (26:08 @2) + (20:01 @3) + (8:58 @4) 8.07 mi (9:32 / mi) +1342ft 8:14 / mi
ahr:150 max:170 shoes: Adidas adiZero XT

Beautiful day! Humid in the woods, but it felt kind of good, with the (relatively) cooler temperatures.

First 3-lapper in a very long while!

Note

Juliet got us a pullup bar! I'm so excited!

One pullup done so far. :)

Note

Consolidating some activity types, and will use keywords to differentiate. Simpler in many ways. Wish there was a way to do bulk updates.
10 AM

Orienteering (Ridley Crk 12/2010 Red) 1:11:54 intensity: (56:34 @1) + (13:11 @2) + (36 @3) + (1:33 @4) *** 4.97 mi (14:28 / mi) +804ft 12:33 / mi
ahr:138 max:164 shoes: Inov-8 Mudroc 290

Missed my train this AM, and needed to take a day off before the end of the month, and it's a nice(er) day, sooo Ridley Creek "O' the Thorns" Summer Training! Dec 2010 Ridley Red course.

RouteGadget Here

Would have been 6th. But boy the woods are rough in the summer! Good training. 235m climb officially, I hit 245m. Good contour counting hughmac3!

Humid and pretty damp in the woods, but the cooler temps were nice. Thorns, particularly greenbriar, were out of control.

Fun Wed afternoon training, except for the greenbriar and spiders! Lots of little mistakes, visibility was very poor, concentration mediocre.

Running (7 x Grass Laps) 36:51 intensity: (33:03 @1) + (1:19 @2) + (1:22 @3) + (1:07 @4) 3.78 mi (9:46 / mi) +207ft 9:17 / mi
ahr:130 max:165 shoes: Puma Complete Haraka XCS

Post-girls-in-bed field trot. Humid but cooler. Awesome moonrise!!

Left foot and calf a bit achy, but felt better as I went on.

Vadim Day Routegadget is UP!

Need the green and brown controls
1 PM

Running tempo (Trail) 32:07 intensity: (10:31 @1) + (8:04 @2) + (8:03 @3) + (5:29 @4) 3.54 mi (9:04 / mi) +666ft 7:42 / mi
ahr:149 max:173 shoes: Adidas adiZero XT

Yet another ridiculously humid day ... not quite as hot at 89F. :)

Good times in the Crum! More of these to come. Definitely feeling heart strong/weak-legged, which I certainly prefer. It was hard going to get my HR above 155.

Orienteering 40:40 [4] 3.82 mi (10:39 / mi) +338ft 9:49 / mi
shoes: Inov-8 Mudroc 290

Brilliant TnT Special Event (Vadim Day) put on by Wyatt this evening. Blazingly hot and humid. Thanks for the course, map, etc Wyatt, and thanks for the wonderful hosting Riley Family. So fun!

Started my watch late, but 40:40 is right. About 4 minutes of mistakes, maybe 5. #8 what a snafu! :)

Take a look at the OSM version of the map ... not bad for following along. Maybe Wyatt will get me the map, results, and courses so I can post to routegadget.

Incredible lightning on the way home.

6 AM

Running (6 x Grass Laps) 31:06 intensity: (20:59 @1) + (8:58 @2) + (1:09 @3) 3.28 mi (9:29 / mi) +167ft 9:03 / mi
ahr:130 max:159 shoes: Puma Complete Haraka XCS

Trying to beat the heat with an AM run. I suppose it was better than high noon, but geez, still pretty darned humid.

Nice to get out, and fun to try out the Harakas (remember them?) for the first time in a very long time.

Took a mile to wake up!

Running hills (Cemetery Star) 57:49 intensity: (13:04 @1) + (21:24 @2) + (15:42 @3) + (7:39 @4) 5.77 mi (10:01 / mi) +531ft 9:13 / mi
ahr:149 max:172 shoes: Adidas adiZero Mana 5

Oh my, probably shouldn't have gone out in this heat. Bleh. I feel crappy now. But really wanted to work out, so, well, there you go. :)

Trying a star pattern hill run in the cemetery. Not pushing too hard, but the heat was brutal. Pretty boring, not really very hilly, but there aren't a lot of other hills around here to work with. It was that or the Franklin Field steps, and that would have surely killed me today.

Kind of a fun GPS track.

7 PM

Running (Crum 1 lap + 2 Field Laps) 49:51 intensity: (45:21 @1) + (3:41 @2) + (45 @3) + (4 @4) 4.74 mi (10:31 / mi) +682ft 9:15 / mi
ahr:136 max:160 shoes: Adidas adiZero XT

Easy evening run. Still hot. Still humid.

Field is pretty close to 1km, nice.

Running (Crum 2 laps) 59:30 intensity: (22:44 @1) + (8:08 @2) + (12:52 @3) + (15:20 @4) + (26 @5) 5.81 mi (10:14 / mi) +915ft 8:55 / mi
ahr:149 max:175 shoes: Adidas adiZero XT

Early run (no coffee even!) trying to beat the heat. Well, the humidity was waiting for me. :)

Great to get out!
3 PM

Swimming 20:00 [3] 0.8 km (25:00 / km)

Nice slow cool off swim. Included 2 trips to the pool via bike too, one with a trailerful of gals and gear.

Note

Waffles and WOC© - 2013 Relays at our house this morning. Really great via iPad on the big screen!! Group consensus: Orienteering is ready for the Olympics.

12 PM

Walking/Hiking (Airsoft) 1:00:00 [1] 2.0 mi (30:00 / mi)
shoes: Inov-8 Mudroc 290

Played some airsoft. It was way too hot, and the teams were lopsided, so a lot of time just doing nothing, watching the forest around my position. Nice to get out. There are a lot of bugs in any 1m x 1m square bit of forest floor.

12 PM

Running (Cemetery 3 Laps) 36:15 [2] 4.12 mi (8:48 / mi) +299ft 8:14 / mi
shoes: Adidas adiZero Mana 5

The air was warm and thick today, but it was still really nice to get out at lunch.

I saw a large pitbull loose in the cemetery, very thin, un-neutered male, no collar. Tried to call him over after sitting on a small wall to be less intimidating, and he perked up his ears at me then wandered past, after (I assume) realizing that I: a) wasn't a threat, b) didn't have any food handy.

Called cemetery when back at office, they knew about him and had called animal control. E-mailed my old West Philly dog park list in case someone wants to grab this guy, as animal control will euthanize the dog if they get him.

Note

Oh no, forgot shoes!! Almost decided to buy NEW ones, I was that ready to go. But they're just too expensive.

Running (Cemetery 2 Laps) 5:30 [2] 0.51 mi (10:47 / mi)
shoes: Adidas adiZero Mana 5

Hmmm, testing the ol' GPS logger (Holux M1000C) ... it oddly split things and dropped some of the run. Maybe I'll try updating the firmware ... and the battery was probably looooow.

Humid out there. Nice to get a jog in at lunch. Intensity 2 only for the effort required to stop sweating afterward.
12 PM

Running (Cemetery 2 Laps) 5:25 [2] 0.51 mi (10:37 / mi)

Running (Cemetery 2 Laps) 19:35 [2] 2.2 mi (8:54 / mi) +102ft 8:32 / mi

Walking/Hiking (Crum 1 lap) 1:34:48 [1] 3.33 mi (28:28 / mi) +502ft 24:55 / mi
shoes: Adidas adiZero XT

Walk with hughmac3 to determine, using hughmac3's new measuring wheel, once-and-for-all what the real distance is for the Crum Woods Standard MacLoop.

hughmac3 has been questioning my GPS results for years now, and we finally put it to the test:

The devices -- Wheel vs. GPS:

hughmac3 took careful notes, but encrypted them to try to hid the truth from me:

But I deciphered the code, and it looks like a single loop is 2.264 miles. A bit longer than my average (which is something like 2.22), but not bad, about 2% off.

Of course I forgot to hit lap when we first got down there ... but if you follow the track, it's an unusually-short 0.58 mi at the loop spot, and overall loop lap is 2.18 mi. So off by .084 mi (~150 yards). I think the watch is almost always short, but not by much. I'll have to look back through my log for some more stats.

Get yourself a watch, hughmac3!

Next test: anniemac's Garmin vs. hughmac4's Garmin vs. hughmac4's Holux M1000-c

Fun walk, either way. OH so humid.
2 PM

Running (Swat 1 Lap) 35:57 [3] 4.0 mi (8:59 / mi) +269ft 8:27 / mi
shoes: Adidas adiZero Mana 5

Brutally humid, and fairly hot too. Felt like crud, but really happy I got out. At some point I will stop sweating.

Happy Independence Day!
