GREAT fun outside of Seattle at Cougar Mountain (
http://www.trailrunner.com/trails/state_trails/wa_...). In an effort to tire myself out for an early bed prior to heading back to The East tomorrow, I did some chilly, snowy (neat!) trail running. Got too cold (arms from elbow to wrist, and legs toward the end) and went too far (1:44 instead of the 1:15 I was planning), but it was an absolutely perfect location.
Primaeval-feeling fern and pine, with some other big-maple-leaf kind of tree, snow draping everything, soft, easy trails, plenty of altitude, a few neat views between the clouds. The most interesting thing was the occasional glimpse of a 6-foot diameter trunk that was cut a long time ago. They made me realize it was actually a rather young forest ... and how I wished I could have seen it in its glory, covered in giants!
Yes, I did run this in my Manas! And shorts and t-shirt with fleece vest and hat. It was 35F, but those are all of the clothes I brought on my trip.
Looking forward to getting back to Philly. It was a long but productive conference.
