MTB marathon race in Utena surroundings.
Decided to try something new for me - MTB race.
Competed in amateur class. My equipment was not the worst but not too far from it - I was surprised how many good bikes, shoes, etc. were around.
Had to start almost from the very back. Avoided falls but should have gone much faster first kms from the start when track was wide. Then was stuck in the forest path behind slower riders for couple kms.
Overall my pacing was bad - wanted to save power to have it till the finish. But as last couple kms were mostly downhill returned quite fresh which is bad.
Took 38th place of 122 "amateur" starters. That is not satisfying, next year will do better.
5% tarmac, 95% gravel/forest paths (easy course but strong headwinds).
Avg 23.62 km/h, max 42.44 km/h.
