Score-O at Hickory Run, on the new map between 534 and the gorge. Very nice chance for some advanced orienteering not possible in EMPO-land. Route was: 64-53-63-44-35-45-62-46-tried 36-finish. 90 minutes total, mass start, 100 pt/min overtime penalty!!
64 was about 400m of compass shot, missed way right but recovered OK. At 53 I discovered I had the talent to distract 3 others by inspecting the wrong outcropping. Spiked 63, very happy, pretty easy to follow the semiopen areas to the reentrant. I think 44 might have been on the wrong rock. Route from 44 to 35 was stupid, across the hot kneehigh blueberry fields. On the way back, spiked 62, very happy. Went way low on 46 and had to climb back up. When I got back to the main trail intersection and accidentally went up the northern branch and wasted time looking on the wrong trail/spur area for 36. When I realized I was in the wrong place had maybe 8 minutes left. Ran right by circle of 36 on the way back but no time to punch -- hit the finish at 1 second overtime according to my watch, but the official time was 10 seconds early. Wonder what the discrepancy was?
REALLY FUN. The varied terrain -- mostly open woods, lots of open patches, and the steep bouldered slopes by the rail tracks made for a lot of interesting changes. Controls all hung low and sneaky. Shame this map won't get used much for meets. (no good parking, this event used a carpool)

Anyone who reads this... what is a good way to get GPS tracks on a scanned map, using a mac, not a PC? I've tried TrackRunner, which can do it, but with only a huge amount of boring manual adjustment to match the track to the jpg. Nothing else seemed promising. Everyone around here uses quickroute, which is PC only.

Canoeing on Lake Naomi, to pancake island and back. Zoe paddled bow. For the return trip, we paddled into the wind, hence the highly amusing GPS trace.
