Orienteering 2:15:00 [3]

My splits tell the story well. In the beginning when there was a lot of detail, I just can't go that fast while still maintaining map contact. On the slope going down to C2 I really didn't know where I was and was navigating my relocation; a bit similar on C4. Otherwise, I needed to be very deliberate and needed a lot of little pauses. Once things go easy at the end, I sped up quite a bit on the rest of the field. That's just the way it is when I don't get much serious nav practice, which for Lisa and I requires travel. Happy enough with the day though; finishing without any big bombs is more fun.

Orienteering 1:35:00 [3]

14 of 16 controls were fine but C1 and C6 were colossal bombs. Even though I told myself before the race , "map, map, map," I moved quicker than my head could keep up in the beginning. Once I found C1, it turns out I had been pretty close. However, I had to relocated all the way over on the trail to the north. On C6 I thought I was on top of things and attacked when I thought I should but, as it turns out, I completely misread the terrain. I'd have to go back to really figure out what happen. End result was a long relocation off the trail again. That said, I hit the other 14 controls decently well and was planning and thinking ahead. My nav technique just isn't fast these days and I feel tentative and defensive. I enjoyed the forest and the map and look forward to come back here at the earliest opportunity. Still, 21 min of error is tough on the ego.

Orienteering 50:00 [3]

I didn't think I was running very fast but, generally, my splits were decent. That was nice. Unfortunately, I lost my head on C13 and was too low and into creek bottom. Then got a little lost in the buildings on the way to C14. Not sharp but my legs are moving.

Run 20:00 [3]

Easy to try to work some tight spots out. Didn't work. Legs are very slow.

Wednesday May 8, 2013 #

Row (steady state-40) 1:05:00 [3]

2 x 20 = 2 [ 8 ( 2 at 20 + 30s at 26) ] / 2
then
5 [ 15 / 15 ] at 28, 30, 32, 30, 28

Tired. Didn't sleep well. Can't really judge how I'm doing otherwise.

Note

I was going to go for a short run but lost enthusiasm for it as the day went on.

Tuesday May 7, 2013 #

Row (stead state - 37) 1:20:00 [3]

3x18 = 3 [ 6 (2 at 18 + 1 at 20) ] / 2
then
10 [ 1st 5 of start at 3/4 speed, 3/4 pressure]

Good work. Nice morning. Tired but doing ok. Starts were pretty good I think.

Run 40:00 [3]

Felt a little off today and so I thought the run would be a drag. However, while I was moving slowly, I was comfortable. Need to make sure to get some rest the next few days.
