Orienteering 2:45:00 [3]

Ultralong - red: 14.6 km 475 m 13 C = 2:34:18

Goal: My running training has been minimalist because I have been focusing my my rowing. Thus, my goal was to not worry about results and just be steady. I hoped that while I might be tired when I finished, I wouldn't be bonking and would be able to step back into my rowing training without too much delay.
Result: My nav. was decent except for two controls: C3 -- I became confused by a large number of unmapped small marshes/wet spots and unmapped root stocks. Eventually had to come back almost to the road and reattack. C11 -- Concentration flagging and my eyes missed seeing the lower intermittent trail, which I mistook for the upper trail on the map; this led to me running around way too low on the slope. I then had a messy run back to the road leading to C12 as I got a bit caught up in the marsh. Otherwise, I made my plans and executed my plans with good discipline and efficiency. Ran with Emily Kemp on the road to my C7 and then saw her intermittently for the next few controls. Chased Sergey V. up the road to C10 but lost him in the woods.

Enjoyed the run to about control 10 after which I was ready to be done. I guess that's is about how far ~3 hrs/week of running + a lot of rowing will get me. My legs are more sore than I would like though -- it would have been better if I could have stopped at the 2hr mark.

All and all, a great weekend. Also, props to my mom for I think the best post race picnic lunch I have ever had at an A meet.

Orienteering 1:50:00 [3]

Model, WU and CDs: 45min

Sprint: 2.6 km 60 m 17 C = 17:06
Goal: I had not done any speed work or serious nav. work since PNWOF. Thus, my main concern was being too wound up, bolting like a jackrabbit, and running without thinking. Thus, my goal and the focus of my pre-race thoughts was to chill and execute my system with discipline.
Result: I got distracted by Eric Kemp at C3 and exiting the spectator control my mind blanked for a total loss of about 40s. Otherwise, I thought I did a very good job. I consciously identified risky legs and adjusted my technique accordingly. I executed my control-circle system reasonably well. I had good finishing speed over the final two controls.

I enjoyed the terrain, course and general event set up.

Middle: 2.6 km 60 m 17 C = 48:30
Goal: Not worried about pressing hard. Just wanted to navigate well.
Result: A bit low on energy after the morning. I had a big boom on the way to C5 when I decided to visit C10 first. Had trouble reading the map at times which I blame mostly on my eyes getting old. Other than that, I mostly execute my plans well enough -- it's just that my plans often were non-optimal. My lack of nav. training was certainly evident.

Run 32:00 [3]

Running legs are AWOL. I did some strides and map reading and I felt slow at both. I will have to rely on cunning and trickery this weekend.

Row 58:00 [3]

D: 3[(4+4)/5]
spms: 20/22

Brisk north wind so I hid behind Jackson point. I did not feel at all smooth; maybe due partly to bad erg habits but the bumpy water and wind certainly didn't help.

Erg 1:10:00 [3]

D-Erg: 3[(8+6)/5]
spms 20/22

Boring.
