Orienteering 2:15:00 [3]

NAOC Blue long. 12.7 km in 1:57:50

Felt tired and slow warming up and my energy level didn't improve during the race. I couldn't really take advantage of the trail legs the way I would like. On the plus side, I didn't let it bother me and just kept working from one control to the next.

Other than some pauses in the control circle I was pretty clean. At least I didn't have to go on any searches or do any relocating. I was much more disciplined than yesterday about visualizing what I was going to see.

3 major route choice errors and one minor route choice error probably cost me about 5-6 minutes. They were my usual type of route choice error -- when I am tired I make choices to save energy that often turn out to do exactly the opposite.

The infamous C23 caused a significant pause when I read the depression then big hill just before the control and thought I was at the correct spot. Luckily, I pressed forward a bit a found it. This cause a little confusion on the way to C24 but I lucked out again because I had used the hill at C24 as an attackpoint for C4; thus, I was able to recognize the features and correct.

Overall, a fun day. Not a spectacular result but not bad either. Like yesterday, I thought this was a really fun place to run and would love to return.

Orienteering 1:25:00 [3]

NAOC Middle.

Started off reasonably well but had a big error on the way to C6. After that I my performance was sometimes good, sometimes not so good. After C12 I thought I'd haul up to the yellow ride that wasn't really a ride (I should have read the notes more carefully). This confused me quite a bit but I lucked out in that Hammer and Ken Jr. came by; I confess that I latched on and let them pull me out a huge error. I let them go at C13 and got back to my own business.

Running back to the car I was a bit depressed because I had had a hard time reading the map. My old legs are still working ok for me and I can continue to work on my nav. skills. But there is not much I can do about my eyes. The only consolation is that it seems others had trouble reading the map too; on the other hand, their eyes are also old. Oh well, it will just become part of the challenge I guess.

Really enjoyed the terrain, map and course. I would love to run around here again.

Orienteering 1:10:00 [3]

NAOC Sprint prelim in 13:07.

NAOC Spring final. 3.1 km in 20:40
First two loops were solid nav. wise. However, I'm embarrassed to say that I had to walk the big hill after the fence/pavilion control. My brain had a short period of fogginess in the early part of the third loop when I misread the order of the controls and went to the wrong location. Luckily, I was cognizant enough to check control codes, realized my error, and correct quickly. I got myself back on track for the last 5 controls and finish reasonably well.

I enjoyed both sprints and the park. It was a fun day.
