Orienteering 2:00:00 [3]

Oringen day 5
8.2 km in 1:49:11
Winner in 51. 109/51 = 1.91

Back to the marshes. Long legs. I did a good job of getting to the control circle and then I did a good job of totally confusing myself. Lost time on C1, C2 and then super big time on C3. Worked to keep doing as best I could but I was hot and ran out of steam. On the long 2.5 km leg back to C8 I had to alternate between running and walking but I maintained map contact the whole way and spiked it; here's to small victories. Detoured to the road on the way to C9 to drink; I was feeling dehydrated. Dragged myself through the rest of the controls.

Less sick today.

Overall, not super results for the week but I still enjoyed the experience... mostly. ;-)

It was quite amazing to be part of such a large ORingen and I'm glad we came. That said, I think I've had my fill of ORingens for a while and would rather search out events with less than say 5000 people.

Orienteering 55:00 [3]

ORingen day 4.
5.9 km in 46:55 = 7.57 / km
Winner in 35:15. 47/35 = 1.34

Mountain top stage w/ ski lift to the start. Lots of navigating along slide slopes. Small mistake at 3 and a big one at 8. They weren't due to inattention, just didn't read the terrain properly. Brain didn't feel sharp.

Sick today.

Orienteering 1:30:00 [3]

ORingen Day 3. 8.6 km in 78:01 = 9:04 / km
Winner in 51. 78/51 = 1.53

First mountain stage. Climb out of start, quick loop in yellow, then into very detail contours. Did a decent job of picking good intermediate APs and slowing down to find the control. Lost some time on 6-7 because I switched route choices to a safer and easier approach. Climb up hill over very soft ground from 12-13 was very hard.

Long day. ~3 km walk to event center, 3.5 km to start, race, then the ~3 km back to the cottage.

A little sick. Don't have a lot of extra energy.

Orienteering 1:15:00 [3]

ORingen Day 2. H35. 4.5 km in 55:06. Winner in just under 28.

Was very careful with C1 but then got tentative and did't go far enough. Othersignificant mistake was one that I warned myself about -- chasing features. Instead of staying on my own bearing and waiting for the correct feature I see something similar to the side, think it is mine, and off I go to boom land. Other than those 2 I had only small bobbles here and there but I am moving very slow.

I wish I were higher, much higher, in the placing. Clearly my ego and expectations are not well aligned with reality. Have to chill and enjoy.

Event: Oringen 2008

Orienteering 1:47:00 [3]

ORingen Day 1, H35. 8.4 km in just under 87 minutes. Winner took just under 50.

Blew C1 in the control circle for a 10 min error. On a couple of others I just kind of threw myself at the control. Some others required some brief relocating. About half the controls were executed well. Pretty tired.

Orienteering 45:00 [3]

Training map. Walked for about 30 as I climbed through the white forest to the the yellow alpine area up top. Fun place. Very soft ground is draining and ankle busting. Generally reading things well but vague hillsides are a challenge. Form line reentrants or single contour reentrants are hard for me to spot.
