Run 30:00 [3]

Not sore but stiff and slow. Nice day.

Orienteering 2:00:00 [3]

US O Team & FLO A meet
IOF Long

Started conservative and then ramped it up. Cool overcast weather great for running -- didn't carry H20. Took Gu too late and took in too much water at once; ended up sloshing around. Finished strong running hard. Good result. See splits for details.

Was feeling drained later but a 32oz Coke revived me. Went to see Manatees at nearby state park -- saw dad, mom and baby manatee. :-) No alligators. I really wanted to see an alligator. :-(

Orienteering 1:00:00 [3]

US O Team & FLO A meet
IOF Middle Distance: WRE

Too warm, blah. Good thing it's a short day. Energy level good. Good run except for 1 major and 1 major-major. Warm down after. Detailed comments with splits.

Went to Daytona Beach the afternoon. Parked on beach and went swimming in the Atlantic.

Orienteering 45:00 [3]

US O Team & FLO A meet: Sprint/Model

Energy level and legs ok -- no complaints. Top priority is to observe, get a feel for the contours, and understand the vegatation; racing was secondary. Started out easy. Train of people in the middle of the course made nav. easy. Running with Dylan at the end. On the way to C10 a thorn went through the topside of my shoe and it just kept getting worse. Foot distraction and poor map reading caused me to miss C11. Kind of ran/hopped in to the finish. Pulled a nice 1cm thorn out of shoe/foot. Warmed down running part of course again. Found a couple of the dry ditches just to see what those were like.

Stategy for weekend:
* Contours are indeed my friend and very readable.
* Strict compass control needed to read contours.
* Run with eyes/head up to take in big picture and broad features.
* Hill tops are helpful for locating and good views.
* Didn't think major trails were that bad to run on, particularly with the rain.

Easy + (6x100) strides. Still slow. Gray, cool day. Rowed EV but had to hide out behind Jackson Point again.
