map hiking 1:27:23 [3] 2.69 mi (32:29 / mi) +92m 29:22 / mi

AP didn't get it right today. But I didn't do nearly as much standing still today (pre-labeled all my streamers, used a lot of trails) so understandable. Finished streamering controls for FCN. Another cold day.

AP is smart! It knew this was "map hiking" and not just hiking. I wonder what algorithm it uses.

Out at French Creek streamering control sites for the March 26 event that I just said I would course set. Using a lot of controls that I used for the A event in 2013 and other sites that I had visited but ended up not using so was pretty sure everything I was going to would be fine unless a tree had fallen on it or something. Visited 30 out of 37 sites - will get the others tomorrow. This is the right time of year for French Creek - none of the nasty vegetation is out and you can see a lot farther than normal so the bland hillsides aren't quite as bingoey. It was easy to read most of the contour wiggles and I didn't really need my compass most of the time. But I was trudging pretty slowly - I was bundled up so not feeling particularly spry, there was about 2 or 3 inches of snow on the ground making it very slippy and slidey and it's French Creek so rocks.

The courses aren't great, but they're fine. Just hoping for decent weather.

strength & stretching 35:00 [3]

Another grueling training session. She usually puts several things together working different muscle groups and I rotate through them doing 15 or 20 (or more or less) reps each and doing 3 or 4 sets. And then I take a sip of water and then on to another group of exercises. Always, at least one of the things in the rotation seems easy while the other(s) is much harder. Today everything was hard except some easy arm presses in between some killer ab stuff. But the curls - usually a rest - were done in a wall sit and the up-and-over the step had squats on each side and weights to move from one side to the other so no easing off on that either. And all the crunches were done in combination with leg lifts so those were harder than usual. But I am sure a month or so ago I would not have been able to do what I did today, so at least I feel like there is progress even if I felt like it was really hard today.

Note

Today was one of those days when I really fear I am going senile. I couldn't find my SJU ID this morning when I was getting ready to leave, hunted a bit checking coat pockets and such, and then decided I must have left it in my office last night. I get to my office and remember I had on a rain coat the last time I had my ID and since I rarely wear that coat didn't check those pockets. A little inconvenient not having my ID since I also keep my office key and a flash drive with things I need for lectures in my ID case but I got a spare key and I have plenty of extra flash drives so I did some quick copying. Next, I made myself a nice cup of coffee to take to my first class only to get to class and realize I left the coffee sitting in my office. Again, not that big a deal but I missed having it during class. I get back to my office after class only to realize I left my lunch in my car and so had to trudge back out to my car to retrieve it. Then I get to my afternoon class only to realize I left my lecture notes in my office. Now this class is one I've never taught before and while the material isn't that hard, it's not like I know it really well and I had worked out some specific examples to illustrate certain points. Well the classroom is halfway across campus from my office and it would kill 20 minutes or so to go back and get them, so I decided to wing it. Only messed up one thing and it was somewhat minor so quite pleased with that. And to top it off, Ieft some papers that need grading in my office and next week is spring break so I wasn't planning to go in to school until a week from Monday but I really should have those papers ready to return that Monday so I think I will have to make a trip in to get them.

So nothing major and no disasters, but it just was one thing after another all day long. And I even got a good night's sleep last night. Sheesh!

Yoga/Pilates 1:00:00 [3]

Good class. It's been a while but the training I've been doing with Kelly meant that other than being tight from not stretching I was able to do all the poses reasonably well.

strength & stretching 35:00 [3]

Training session with 5 min. stretch afterwards. Worked the arms a lot today; will have to see how the shoulder feels tomorrow. It was borderline during a few things but I decided to push through and see what happens.
