hiking 2:09:50 [3] 3.24 mi (40:04 / mi) +145m 35:11 / mi

Nice easy hiking while fixing up the map at Fort Washington. There were some SAR folks in the woods - at first I couldn't figure out why this got down on the ground behind a rootstock and pulled a tarp over her, but eventually it clicked.

I had expected today to be pouring rain and my plan was to test out my newly waterproofed boots and full rain gear, but it turned out to be 65 and cloudy all afternoon. I will have to postpone the rain test. Maybe tomorrow I'll walk around the block or something - it is supposed to rain tomorrow.

But I need to take an easy week this week; I have a nagging muscle twinge in my right leg that I would like to give a chance to go away.

Another long slow slog but this time at Ridley. Tried to cut through Tyler at the end but the person in the Visitor's Center was having none of it. Trails were a mix of water, mud, slush and ice. Beautiful day out with temperatures in the 60's. Every so often I would hit a patch of shade/snow combination where the temperature would drop 10 or more degrees.

I put some waterproofing stuff on my boots and my feet stayed completely dry.

Note
(rest day)

Went and had a massage. She kept finding knots: shoulders (always have those), right hip (explains the funny feeling on the side of my right leg) and both quads (hmm...guess I've done a bit of climb the last week). Even the muscles in my feet were tight. But my calves were pretty good - I've been using the roller on them most nights.

The Temp-O game is great.

Double stair repeats - 4 x (10' double, 1' rest, 1' single). Accidentally stopped the watch during the last one so that is messed up. Wore my pack which weighs about 10lbs at the moment. There was also a 4' warmup and 2' cool down.

Hill repeats in the Wissahickon. Sandy joined me for the first couple and I managed to keep going after she had to leave. Trails were mostly frozen footsteps and bike ruts making for very uneven footing. Slowed down considerably towards the end.

Pretty cold out but did most of this with just one long sleeve shirt and tank base layer. Did put my gloves back on at the end as the sun going down made it so my fingers were getting cold.

Pretty bizarre that I have to wear more inside the house to keep warm when I'm just sitting than I do outside when I'm moving. I guess it makes but it seems weird.

Need to do this twice a week - I can feel that all the hiking is tightening my calves and hips when I do this. At least I assume it's all the hiking.
