Early morning existence check. A really nice outing; a bit of fog - not enough to be a problem but enough to make it feel really peaceful.

And again - lots of volunteers to pick up so I didn't have to go out.

Putting out a few controls on trails and turning on a few others. Again, the vetting crew was fantastic. I asked them to be done by 8:30 or 8:45 so I wouldn't stress too much and they were all done and back by 8:00. What a great crew; just phenomenal.

Note

Probably logged another 8 hours on my feet just walking around with nervous energy.

Had a super control pick up crew. Enough volunteers that very few of the vetting team had to go out. And not only did they get all the controls in within an hour, but they also hauled out 25 gallons of unopened water and one very lost runner.

Lucked out with great weather -- but what's with the gnats??? They weren't quite as bad as this summer, but they were still mighty annoying.

Putting out and vetting controls first at French Creek and then at Hay Creek.

Everyone was so incredibly efficient that we were done by 1pm! What a crew - couldn't ask for better.

Hauling water to controls. Had help - thanks Ed and Tim! - and it took far less time than I was anticipating. We were done in about 3.5 hours. I carried 4 gallons at a time - 3 in my backpack and 1 in my hand most trips. It was fine but not something I would want to do for multiple hours several days in a row. My shoulders are sore. I'm glad I don't have to haul that kind of weight up Kilimanjaro - I would be in serious trouble!
