Note

I have to laugh at the time errors AP calculates. I definitely screwed up a few legs where it says I didn't have any errors. I guess AP just thinks I'm pathetically slow...

orienteering race 1:05:39 [3] 3.8 mi (17:16 / mi)

Not as good as yesterday - just tired I think. Dumb route to 3, not helped by drifting quite a bit and then not being sure whether to go up or down when I hit the reentrant and couldn't see the flag (guessed wrong). Stayed high to 5 - wonder if it was faster to go down to the road and then back up. Started to consider my route to 7 and promptly screwed up 6 getting too high on the hill after leaving the trail. Checked out several root stocks before figuring out where I really was. Took the left route over the bridge to 7 but missed the control in all the green and had to climb the hill to relocate. I'm sure I lost a couple of minutes here. Couldn't focus to read the map to figure out the last control. So no major errors, just lots of little sloppy ones.

Although definitely green, I didn't think it was that bad. Most of what I went through was more thick than full of prickers so not really an issue.

I did manage to scratch my eye - both the eye itself and also the eyelid. It's not bad but it's making it hard to read today.

orienteering race 58:38 [3]

Got results all set up but no one was coming to download and I was reluctant to leave until I was sure things were working. Finally a few folks came in and after a few adjustments to the reports layouts I was confident things were set. Vadim pushed me out. I knew I needed to hustle to get back in time for him to go out so I actually got a warm up as I jogged over to the start. I got to the line and let the start crew chief know I needed to go out as soon as possible and she said could I go out right then and I figured why not so I was called up to the next line within a few seconds. A little hectic but not so bad.

I had two poor route choices where I decided on a more straight route through green instead of around on trails but I probably only lost a minute on each. I also lost a couple of minutes on a short leg (#6) when I fell and bent my knee past the point where it likes to bend. I must have screamed pretty loudly as Greg Lennon came to make sure I was okay. I waved him on but I must have looked bad since he came back twice to make sure I really was okay. Eventually the pain subsided and I got up and continued on. Bending it far like that really, really hurts but doesn't do any real damage although it might be a bit more sore tomorrow than if I hadn't fallen.

I enjoyed myself today. Glad I came.

strength & stretching 5 [3]

3 sets of 20 pushups, 20 situps

orienteering 50:00 [3]

Model event at Keystone. Very green. Map was good though with vegetation pretty accurately mapped as far as I could see, so okay.

Lots and lots of poison ivy. Tried to clean up carefully afterwards. We'll see.

Note

Great. A groundhog - not very big, so maybe just born this spring? - just waddled across the yard followed not too much later by a skunk. It's a shame skunks are such a pest; they're very pretty.

TNT - Indian trail loop with Sandy while Bob and Nick did something else. Took it a little easy. Felt okay breathing-wise but my legs were a little jellied about half way through.

Wasn't going to go, but then decided a thorough stretching would be a good idea. Feel much better.

hiking 52:05 [3]

Hiked my running loop after I got home from a totally unproductive day at work. Felt like I was moving along at a decent clip; very strange that I went that much faster two weeks ago.
