orienteering race 59:13 [3] 5.9 km (10:02 / km)

A pretty clean day to end the week. I almost ran by three controls thinking they were coming up way too soon but they were on the right feature and so I checked and all 3 were mine. Very odd. Walked probably a little over half the course but ran some. Only "error" was the go control when I ran down a reentrant thinking it would lead me right into it but it put me maybe 50 meters too low and I stood there for a bit wondering what had happened. Without that I would have gotten under 10 minute k's - a very rare occurence.

orienteering race 37:00 [5]

3rd leg on the DVOA 12 point team; came in 2nd. I think it was the 2nd best time on that leg but pretty far back from Suzanne who was 30 minutes. Lost about 2 mintues on the control after the spectator control when I just put my head down and climbed and then realized I wasn't really sure where I was so had to kind of take it slow and check things out.

orienteering race 1:08:00 [5]

Night-O at Lake George; green course. Not sure of the time - it was something around that I think. Took very conservative routes at the beginning (went up to the fence for the long leg from 1 to 2 to conserve mental energy - very spooky since no one else seemed to have done that and I saw no lights the whole time until I got to the road) and it paid off with a pretty clean outing. Was able to run most of the last half; not sure why. Cool night air? Lower altitude? Planets aligned correctly? Who knows.

orienteering race 1:02:00 [5]

Day 2 green course at Blue Mountain. My favorite map of the week - one of my favorite of all time I think. Not sure of the time; I didn't write it down and results weren't posted last I checked. A very shaky start: from 1 to 2 I put my compass along the line from 2 to 3 and went about 300 meters in the wrong direction before being convinced that things were not matching up and that something was wrong. Knew where I was so was able to get to 2 okay. Then did the same thing out of 2 - put my compass from 5 to 4 (!!) and again went in the wrong direction a couple hundred meters before recognizing that things were screwy. This time I wasn't really sure precisely where I was and so had to take it somewhat slow to make sure I hit some things I was sure of. Maybe 5 minutes lost on the two controls? Hard to know. After that, I settled down and several good legs and then a small bobble on the last control. But still, one of the most fun areas for orienteering. Never had to worry about my knees or ankles.

orienteering race 1:22:00 [5]

Day 1 at Beuna Vista. Time is approximate. Went out late after working starts in the rain all morning but at least the sun came out while I was on the course. A couple shaky controls, one bad error and one unlucky control where I was in the right place and just didn't see the flag.

orienteering race 28:00 [5]

Prologue. Time is approximate. Decided not to do the chase. Mostly good - two 15 second errors and two 5 second hesitations while I had to double check the map.

Hiking with Valerie in the Lost Creek Wilderness. Saw some of the damage from the Hayman Fire and also an incredibly lush creek valley with amazing wild flowers.
