walking 1:00:00 [1]

Spending the weekend with my sisters at the shore. Walked an hour in the sand and was (depressingly) tired.

Note

Made a few forays into the woods - to hang streamers to the start, to spectate at the first water control and to pick up a control - but nothing worth logging. The event went off without a hitch and people seemed to like the course. I was impressed with the winning time of just under two hours - I estimated a little longer but I guess people were flying through the open sections.

Had fun setting the course but am glad it's over.

Lots of people helped pick up controls and clean up - a huge thank you to Sam, Greg, Tom, Rob, Julie, Petr and Brad. And the last straggler came back in the car with Greg and Sam who found him at the far end of the map and made him return with them; that was key!

For a moment thought we had issues with our finish controls but it turns out that the person whose time didn't make sense actually punched the finish control a second time and the last punch is what is saved. I read the finish box trying to sort out what had happened and sure enough, there was a second punch about 15 seconds after the first.

Hanging controls for the Stumble. First loop went fine although at one point I heard a lot of gunfire and then a little later some sirens so that was a bit spooky. Second loop nit so fine as I realized at the 2nd control I had one two few stands for the intended loop. I pulled up that stand since the control was pretty close to a trail, hung the rest of the loop, went back to the car and got another post and then went back to that control. So a little longer loop than planned.

I am exhausted. Not just today but in general. I am not getting enough sleep, I have been having to stay at school until 7 or 8 many nights, I am not being good about exercising and I am not eating all that well either. I am hoping things settle down soon or I will have to rethink all my orienteering plans for the fall.

Picking up a few night-o controls. A lot of people were nice and pitched in and picked up a few controls for me.

Worked epunch for another 5-6 hours and had to wait for a straggler who was out for 4 hours.

Another great weekend but totally exhausted.

Advanced training sessions plus picking up controls for the training exercises. People seemed reasonably pleased. Sam Kolins volunteered and helped with my training group which was awesome - made all the difference to have the two of us for the big group.

Note

Worked epunch for the night-o for about 4 1/2 hourse No one was out long enough to get anyone worried which was nice. People seemed to like the courses which was also nice.

There was a mix-up at download and in a stupid move I deleted a reserve entry since it was all complicated about who it was and who registered and they said they didn't care and to just delete it. And then when we did the missing runners report we had a start punch and no finisher to match it against. We had a few cadets and others go out without registering so we saw a few of these and I totally forgot about the deleted reserve entry. Eventuall, when it was down to just a few people plus this unidentified starter, Wyatt collected the first few controls on each of the three courses (beginner, intermediate and advanced) to at least see which course they were on and when it became clear that the epunch with no name attached was on the beginner course, it all suddenly clicked. Phew.

Hill repeats on A-hill with Sandy. Most of the ups faster than the downs as usual. I love the graph.

Tried to run the whole thing again but at the top of one of the hills I just started walking. After a mental struggle with running again I opted for 100 paces jogging/100 walking and did that until I got home. The overall time was faster than the last attempt even with the walking.

Knees continue to be about the same now that I've started doing the running in the shoes with the nice wide forefoot.

TNT - meadow loop with Sandy. Slow slog but kept up a jog. Availed ourselves of the sprinklers in the playground at the end.

Crazy lightning storm this evening an hour or so after we finished.

Hill workout in the Wissahickon. There was a woman doing the same thing on the same hill only she was running them as much as she could. I did one more than I planned since I was feeling like a slacker compared to her.

Not a dry square inch on me or my clothes when I finished. It's humid!

hiking 20:00 [3]

Forgot to start my watch right away. Went down to the drive before deciding exactly what I wanted to do and then went over to A-hill for the repeats.
