orienteering race 1:38:12 [3] 5.88 km (16:42 / km)

West Point Day 2 - Green. A little cleaner than Saturday. Went way around to get down the hill from #7; never saw the trail that apparently was visible from the control and the steepness scared me.

Saturday Apr 28, 2007 #

orienteering race 1:45:31 [3] 5.49 km (19:13 / km)

Green course. A few small errors - more than I would have liked given my pace - but nothing disastrous. Only running I managed was on the trail from 6 to 7 and then at the very end.

running 33:28 [2]

TNT - nice easy jog (in deference to WP) on my own at Tyler. Very pleasant.

walking 42:00 [1]

Met up with Eric on my way back to the cars and we walked another big loop in Tyler

Note

I & I and more consistent stretching seem to be working. Good knee is almost back to good; bad knee is almost back to it's normal state.

Wednesday Apr 25, 2007 #

Note

The I&I (ice and ibuprofen) approach seems to be better than my strategy of denial. We'll how it works in the long term.

running 1:04:38 [3]

TNT
Insisted that everyone else go on ahead without me so that I didn't feel pressured to keep up. I walked the short road section and then jogged very slowly down the hill to the drive. Did 3 miles on the drive at a very comfortable, not pushing at all pace, which turned out to be 10:30. Stretched a bit while waiting for everyone else and then walked back up the hill and home. (Time includes all the walking and stretching - for me, it's part of the workout.)

Iced both knees and took ibuprofen after getting home. Let others to the cooking!

walking 35:00 [1]

Walk on the beach. Jogged a few minutes, but not much at all.

Saturday Apr 21, 2007 #

Event: HVO A-Meet

walking 48:00 [1]

A barefoot walk on the beach. Jogged a little on the way back; even a few minutes is hard work in sand.

Friday Apr 20, 2007 #

Note

Knees very bad. Both of them, in different ways. Will need to rethink my strategy of denial.

map hiking 48:14 [1]

TNT - Hung streamers for Clem. Jogged a bit here and there but walked a lot and had to stop and hang a streamer every few minutes in any case.

running 1:17:12 [3]

TNT - managed 5 miles on the drive, some pretty slow ones, but there were 5 of them, for the first time in what feels like months and may very well be months. Plus the down and up.

running 58:05 [3]

TNT at Tyler with Dasha while Tom and Clem ran on their own. Last 10 minutes were walking and some stretching. But I managed to not walk on any of the hills during the run - granted we left out many of the big ones, but still.

running 1:01:00 [3]

TNT - four miles. Dasha and Sandy and Bob did 5 but I took Gail's advice and didn't push it. I think it was a wise decision.

orienteering race 47:01 [3] 4.4 mi (10:41 / mi)

Brown course at Four Mile Circle - local DVOA event. Kathy spelled me at epunch so I could get out. Feeling reasonably good, but decided not to push my luck so did Brown. Could have been a bit cleaner but given how fuzzy my brain still feels, was satisfied with the effort. Felt decent physically, especially on the second half of the course. Perhaps losing the 5 lbs offset any effects of being sick!

Knee felt about the same as usual so that was definitely good news.

Note

Was browsing around, catching up on sites I haven't looked at in a while and curiously ended up reading all about RAAM last summer. Hard to believe how that all worked out...

Friday Apr 6, 2007 #

Note

Still can't keep any food in my system...

Tuesday Apr 3, 2007 #

running 15:00 [3]

TNT - tried to run with Dasha and Sandy but various ailments dictated otherwise. This was the only running I managed - about a mile and a half.

walking 30:00 [1]

Walked around down on the drive waiting for the rest of the gang after it became clear I wasn't going to do any more running.

Note

Major knee pain later in the evening. Not sure what I did, but couldn't straighten the leg nor put any weight on it without excruciating pain. It subsided after a few hours.

Monday Apr 2, 2007 #

Yoga/Pilates 50:00 [3]

Mostly stretching, a little strength stuff. For some reason the recent classes haven't been what I want and they're also bothering my knee. Only a couple classes left in the semester - not sure if I'll go.

Sunday Apr 1, 2007 #

Note

All went well; glad it's over. Definitely some places where things could have spiralled out of control; luckily they didn't.
