hiking 2:04:07 [3] 5.66 mi (21:56 / mi) +170m 20:03 / mi

A pleasant hike in the Wissahickon after two long days of meetings and interviews (asking the questions) and having to be a bit dressed up and drinking way too much coffee and not eating particularly well to boot.

Is spring really here for good? All my crocuses have bloomed and most of the daffodils look to be just a few days away.

Actually did all the pt stuff before bed last night too even though I didn't get home until late after an exhausting day.

I now have enough PT exercises that they take me 30 minutes to do. The therapist also wants me to do them all at one go to build some endurance instead of fitting them in 5 minutes at a time throughout the day. So they are now elevated to training.

I also chatted with her a bit about PT for my knees and hips and she would be delighted to work with me on that but I have to get a referral. But when I told her about one specific new pain in my butt whenever I went up stairs, she put me on my stomach, dug her elbow in a few places, did a couple of stretches and said that might help. Well, the pain is gone. I'm a convert. My goal for next week is to get a doctor's appt. with aim of getting a referral.

Well, would you look at that! I had a plan and I stuck to it this weekend.

Very happy with this outing, especially given how sore I was last night. But I felt good this morning. Yay. Did 150/100 paces jogging/walking.

Beautiful day for a hike in the Wissahickon. Trails were very muddy though so it was slow going in places. Feel pretty beat.

Finally got my ONA today. Something screwy happened with the mail delivery on my street. I got mail last Friday and then nothing. After getting nothing yesterday, decided I needed to investigate. Went to the post office and I was about the third person to inquire and they were very nice and apologized profusely and said it was under control and sure enough got both today's mail and then a second delivery of the last week's mail. Turns out the guy that's been delivering mail on my street since I moved in has retired and there was a mix-up with the scheduling of the person taking over the route.

hiking 54:32 [3] 2.7 mi (20:12 / mi) +112m 17:53 / mi

A quick hike around the meadow loop. Most of the trail was fine although there were a few muddy sections.

While I haven't gotten outside to exercise or done anything sustained inside, I have been doing a ton of pt exercises. I do them in pieces - while my coffee is brewing, while I'm heating something in the microwave, when I've been sitting for a while and want to stretch - all day long. I should do them all at once some time to see how long it takes to get through them all. Some are ones I've started doing on my own (knee bends and neck stretches and squats) and some are from the pt for my shoulder. I've been pretty good about doing them every day. I'm not sure if there's any overall improvement, but I think so. Once I get my shoulder under control, I may see if she has suggestions for my hips which are also starting to bug me.

hiking 1:18:54 [3] 3.8 mi (20:46 / mi) +214m 17:41 / mi

Was going to something inside but the sun was shining so I bundled up and went for a hike.

hiking 55:51 [3] 2.75 mi (20:18 / mi) +95m 18:20 / mi

Dreaded going out in the cold, but managed to bundle up enough that it wasn't too bad, but there was nothing other than a slow hike going to happen.

Well what do you know. One, I actually got out the door this morning before heading in to work knowing I have to stay until 7 or 8 tonight. Two, I actually felt like jogging a bit and so did the normal walk 100 paces, jog a 100 paces when I haven't run for a while. And three, I must so out of shape or else my knees are doing super or else the snow made a beautiful soft carpet for running, since the downhills were actually easier than the uphills for the first time in as long as I can remember. Great day. I will not let work get me down!

Note

Saw a PT person today for my shoulder. I liked her a lot. I have a few new exercises to add to my morning routine. We'll see if it makes a difference; fingers crossed.

I may have to start logging my morning exercise drills as I keep adding things to it.

Kept putting this off (more like kept trying to get stuff done) but finally got out the door and home just before dark. Nice that that is later now.

ahr:115 max:133

A pleasant hike around the meadow loop; hardly any snow left on the trails and they weren't too, too muddy either. But it's been a couple of stressful days at work so I didn't have much oomph and certainly not enough mental stamina to do more than hike.

Got home early enough to get out before dark. Nothing inspired but at least it was something.

Note

Well, hell. Another joint with "severe" osteoarthritis. Here's the full results of the shoulder MRI. I like that they now post test results where the patient can read them:

1. Severe acromioclavicular joint osteoarthritis with undersurface spurs and mild associated subacromial subdeltoid bursitis.

2. Tendinopathy and partial tears of the supraspinatus. Tendinopathy of the infraspinatus without tear. Tendinopathy and interstitial tears of the subscapularis. No evidence of full-thickness rotator cuff tear or muscle atrophy.

3. Intra-articular long head of the biceps tendinopathy.
