Event: Heartland Conference Center
Orienteering 1:17:20 [4] *** 4.6 mi (16:49 / mi)
spiked:17/20c shoes: Addidas Kanadia TR
Took 7th at Heartland on red. A beautiful cold day with temps in the high 20's, warming to mid 30's. Warmed up quick on the hills. Ran hard and mostly clean. Mike Shifman set a great course with gobs of route choice. 20 controls on a somewhat short course. Very detailed map with lots of terrain and features to pick through. I ran clean till CP 9 when I shot left and wandered a couple minutes in rough terrain. Finally picked up a feature in a creek and figured I was too far left and hit it dead on. Back on track for 10 and 11 and then wasted a bit of time on 12 after turning too sharply around a small pond. Only burnt about 30 seconds there. I shot a bit right on 13. My son Matt had messed up earlier and caught me here but blasted past to overshoot the control. I caught it a bit quicker and doubled back immediately. He said later that he turned around 50 yards later and I was gone. I was spot on from that point on but probably lost 7-10 minutes total with all three. Thanks too all who made this a great day to remember.
