Weather good, check.
Permission to be away, check.
Bike in working order, erm, check.
Plan was to do a 100k'er but Janine (bike pro) made me see sense. I've not ridden for more than 2:10 previously so to jump to that would probably break me.
Target - 75k, under 3:15.
Home-Doune-Thornhill-Aberfoyle-Duke's Pass-Invertrossachs-Callander back road - Deanston-Doune-Home
Started nervously steady and really enjoying the day. Felt surprisingly good as I got into Aberfoyle and Duke's Pass went without a hitch (Passed a motorbiker who'd come off a corner with bad gravel rash, gulp!), Three Lochs Drive turning in just under 90 mins - fab!
Cruised down and back along Venechar then once past Callender High I had an inkling I might manage to go sub 3. Put the boot in on the back road. Not wise - my knees aren't ready just yet - but the personal gauntlet had been thrown. Held at the lights in town! Trying hard not to cheat on the one-way system up the hill.... and into the cul-de-sac with a minute to spare!
Now, can someone prise me off this chisel-end-for-a-saddle....
