Orienteering race 45:09 [4] 6.84 km (6:36 / km) +120m 6:04 / km

UKOL Race 2, Tankersley.
Feeling battered and bruised after last night - very stiff knee after locking it back hard. But ready to have a crack a this lark.
Started rather poorly, a bit too sloppy and then after the road I was too busy reading my map to notice the ruined fence - SMACK!
Head first into the floor. I looked like a miner thereafter and suffering from whiplash injury now! Almost decided to quit but then decided I needed some UKOL points given I am not planning to run the JK or BOC so pottered round feeling a bit sorry for myself. Completely surprised to find I'm not that far down on Andy S and 3rd M40 - everyone else having a bad day too!

Scarred and scratched face looks like I've had a fight - glad Monday is a day off for me!

British Night Champs, Tankersley, Sheffield.
Scrappy for the first few, finding my feet (literaly) and then cruised/spiked the tricky section and really into my stride. 5 mins up on the winning M40 (Steve Watkins) and then I go find a control with no SI or number on it. There at the same time as Nick Lightfoot - we both agree it's the right place - but, given it's the Champs I'm keen to make sure some silly twonk hasn't hung it in the wrong place (not that I'd expect that of the SYO boys). Anyway, having traipsed round every meter of the plateau the depression is on I decide it should be where my control is (the tape on the tree said a completely different code altogether) I decide to go on. Put my foot down a rabbit hole a few controls later which set me back a bit but royally stuffed up two controls near the end - one from not having a decent AP and the other from some duff mapping around the edge of the scout camp. Limped home expecting to be miles down. In 2nd place! And, guess what, take out the time I lost at the missing SI control and I would have won.....

Great place for a night race.

Orienteering race 48:00 [4]

FVO Night Race at Minewoods, Bridge of Allan planned by Jon (I like gaffles) Cross.
Great fun but I got off to a poor start - bad route to no2 and slipped about for the first loop having had no warm up. Got into things after that but too far down on Tess and Claire etc etc.
Bridge Inn after.

Run warm up/down 10:00 [3]

With Claire for the w/d.

Kinnoul Hill.
I want to say I enjoyed this run, felt quite bouncy on the climb and enjoyed running through the snow over the top (desite the slippier lower slopes), but I daren't.
