Note

Set off for home at about 10am - many hourse driving across Italy and two flights home with wait in Gatwick. I don't enjoy this part of the BOF tours!

4 PM

Orienteering 50:47 [3] 2.71 km (18:45 / km) +299m 12:05 / km

Staying at Refugio Viviani at 2100m just outside Madonna di Compaglio.
Road traffic horrific so took us hours to get there and so bad that we had to decide to jack the middle race on Sunday and go directly to the aiport from the accom.

Team run (I walked) up the hill next to the hut to enjoy the fabulous dolomiti panoram. Liz Campbell sure knows how to organise a fabulous camp - freely upgraded from 10 euro bunk room to twin bedded en-suites!

12 PM

Orienteering 43:21 intensity: (8:47 @1) + (24:12 @2) + (8:16 @3) + (2:06 @4) 4.33 km (10:01 / km) +147m 8:34 / km
ahr:111 max:157

Hanging controls on Seefeld Wildmoos - venue of my 2nd ever JWOC race where I came 22nd (1989). I don't remember the panoramic views that surrounded the place but the terrain felt like I'd been there last year!
Shadowed Charlotte round one course (she burnt me off!).
2 PM

Orienteering 49:11 intensity: (3:46 @1) + (15:13 @2) + (15:14 @3) + (13:48 @4) + (1:10 @5) 4.41 km (11:09 / km) +219m 8:56 / km
ahr:135 max:172

Collecting controls - part of the long route choice exercise.
Very hot and too hilly for me - took in the hilltop view point as recommended by Marcus.
4 PM

Orienteering 6:56 [0] 2.33 km (2:58 / km) +9m 2:55 / km

Took the cable car up and rode a toboggan down - a break from the training.
Was hoping for a super fast edventure but they gripped too well on the track and mine was dead slow - still managed to hurt my coxics and bruise my thigh when I failed to stop at the end and crashed (I still can't sit down properly 3 days later!)

Orienteering 45:36 intensity: (7:38 @1) + (24:13 @2) + (10:46 @3) + (2:59 @4) 4.12 km (11:04 / km) +175m 9:08 / km
ahr:125 max:157

Karer See in Italy.
A fabulously rocky area with an amazing backdrop of dolimiti.
Hanging controls for the afternoon relay.

12 PM

Orienteering 34:30 intensity: (2:24 @1) + (12:34 @2) + (13:11 @3) + (6:21 @4) 3.48 km (9:54 / km) +162m 8:02 / km
ahr:100 max:160

Jogging the team up to the relay after a quick thunder storm, shadowing Jonny and Charlotte and then collecting in controls and back to the vans.

We took the scenic route back towards Bolzano - over a few passes in glorius sunshine. Saw two glaciers and enough dolomites to make sure I want to return again (in a few years).

7 AM

Orienteering 28:22 intensity: (17 @0) + (1:04 @1) + (11:42 @2) + (10:16 @3) + (4:32 @4) + (31 @5) 4.89 km (5:48 / km) +68m 5:25 / km
ahr:139 max:170

Morning run up the valley before breakfast.
1 PM

Orienteering 1:32:13 intensity: (5:11 @1) + (32:13 @2) + (29:06 @3) + (24:52 @4) + (51 @5) 8.02 km (11:30 / km) +493m 8:48 / km
ahr:141 max:170

Run/walk up the valley to the start of the middle (my God it's up hill!) then a session re-running the start and the butterfly loops of the middle. This terrain rocks! I loved it, despite making a complete hash of one I then got into it a bit, enough to slowly get across to control circles (hunting for 4cm high yellow stick).
Then a team swim in the very, very cold lake!
