Orienteering race 1:57:00 [4]
Jukola!
Great to see the mass start and I always love getting no sleep, cramming into army tents, staring out at drizzly rain and getting very nervous about my run!
In the end Ross and Jon confirmed, on the early legs, that it was tough and technical and so my goal was simply to finish.
After a faff on the way to one trying to take off my thermal and put my brightbikelight back on I quickly got into the area. Not half as bad as the model area and it was brightening quickly - only had to use torch for a few early legs then just kept it on to help read my map. Some cracking long legs where decent contact was required and some great ridge running on bare rock/moss. Came across Barrett, Team Skotlanti, on the latter long leg but he ignored me. Saw him again later on and I made my presence felt! Great to catch a legend up and then show him who's boss at the end (sorry Steve, I know you've got 10 years on me).
In the end, 11.7k in 117 - happy with that and 200 places caught up.
No-one in the team had perfect runs - so everyone seems pretty keento return again next year to improve our team position.
