Orienteering race 1:03:06 [5] 8.5 km (7:25 / km) +180m 6:43 / km

SOL at Loch Vaa.

Was up for this - a great area, some good challenging orienteering 'n all that. I ran very well, felt pretty strong all the way and should have won the 35s. Unfortunately, on re-folding my map leaving 12 I accidentally thought I'd done a 180 so I reversed and then later on realised that I hadn't done a 180 after all. Needless to say, after running an extra 500m and losing 3.5 minutes I was a bit miffed with myself. Still, ran well and was surprised to finish 2.5 mins down. A most enjoyable run and pleased that my terrain fitness is coming good.

Orienteering race 16:45 [5] 3.0 km (5:35 / km) +75m 4:58 / km
ahr:172

Scottish 11 Person relays, Loch Vaa.

FVO - Winners!!!

FVO had a cracking first team and I did my best to keep them in the running - went hard around my light green course with no mistakes.

Orienteering race 13:36 [5] 2.2 km (6:11 / km) +60m 5:26 / km

Ran a later leg for Ecko - as Andy Dale (you won't be too unhappy with that will you Andy?!). Ran the orange which was eyeballs out but much tougher underfoot than the lg course and I was tired from some frantic worrying about our second team - which all got sorted in the end, of course.

Run warm up/down 25:00 [3]

Mountain Bike 2:50:00 [3]

I was given the opportunity by work to spend the afternoon surveying part of Loch Ard Forest for Mountain Bike Orienteering and I wasn't going to pass it up. I'm staging a foot o and bike o event for the office next Friday as part of a work's day so am desperate to get a map sorted. It was a fab day and I saw Red Kites, Ospreys, deer and got a look at the old O area called Drumore - still fabulous tall oaks with bilberry under foot - must get out for a run there soon!

Race race 28:11 [5] 5.2 km (5:25 / km) +190m 4:35 / km

FVO' s first orienteering relevant time trial at Polmaise - planned and arranged by Jon x and Trevor Hoey. Brilliant! Except I got lost because of my poor eyseight I couldn't see the flags! Even so I ran hard and gave it what I could (not much after the day's biking). Great to see so many people out and well pleased to see that the fittest people in the club are M/W16s!

Run warm up/down 40:00 [3]

Running round the route and hanging tape. I failed to remember where I'd been though! Collecting tape/kites afterwards too. Knackered!

Orienteering 36:01 [5] 4.5 km (8:00 / km)

FVO event at Polmaise.

I was meant to be taking things easy bcause of the team time trial tomorrow, but it's not easy when you have a map in your hand and you know the lead time! Ran well, although i don't think i took the best route to two (I went right and climbed round to drop in from above and it took ages) but the rest went OK - I avoided most of the brambles/nettles getting to 9.

But alas, the legend that is Ross McL kicked our butts with 34 minutes anyway!

Run warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Run 1:39:11 [4]
ahr:142 max:175

First day of my weight-loss plan (by training better and eating healthier).

And I'd read Brad's AP about his run from home up Dumyat. I thought this would be my last chance to do this given the nights have started drawing in and FVO training starts in earnest next week so I though Sod it - let's do it! Headed out after work (about 6pm) and got off to a good start up through the back woods and along to the reservoir - then I hadn't thought through the rest - ended up scaling the sluice walls to get across and trudging through some deep grass to find an elephant track to the old Sherriffmuir Road. From then it was easy, approaching Dumyat from the NW side - but it then threw it down and I failed to find a sheep track that took me anywhere near the hill! I was now humming the Rocky theme tume and zig-zagging up the steeper sections to ensure I kept running and that I did. Got to the top in 51 minutes and the sky had cleared and the views were excellent! Mission half-accomplished.
Returning I zig-zagged along the tops and eventually got to the higher car park from were I struck out through very deep marsh grass and tussocks over the hill - not nice ;-( But eventually I hit lower fields that were grazed and runnable before trying to make a bee-line for the reservoir track home - not remembering that there's a gaaping chasm of a river in between! Derrr.
So I had to retrace my steps a bit and head north to come south wading the river and eventually getting through thick forest to the track and home. Not the best of returns but it means I burnt more calories! 1050!
Great run - to be done again sometime!
