Orienteering race 40:30 [4] 5.2 km (7:47 / km) +250m 6:17 / km

Jk middle, Brereton Spurs, Cannock. A Long wait to race and a slightly negative mindset didn't help. Shot off like a startled deer and promptly lost the plot across to 2 where I overshot. From then on I was very scrappy and really struggling with the small climbs. I don't like vague maps. Held it together, just, to get 4th spot but 5 mins down on the Nogs and Andy S. Hope I feel better tomorrow. Wiped out after that mini hill race.

Up since 5:30 with a spewing Matthew, running late for the xc, juggling kids and trying to do a morsel of work......cold sore, knackered...

Orienteering race 1:00:06 [4] 6.9 km (8:43 / km) +250m 7:22 / km

SOL at Auchingarrich planned by Rog. Great area in great shape and good course from Rog. Had worked the start from the beginning and started after 1pm with minimal warm up. But ran well and tried my best. Let myself down by some poor (overly-defensive) route choices on two long legs (lost me over 2 mins on Ben) to lose to Ben Stansfield by 1 min.
Loved the course, but it was getting a bit too muddy latterly!

Then helped the team unpack everything back into the store - eventually home at 17:50.

Scottish Spring Middle race - Abbey Craig, planned by Ben Stansfield.
Excellent, intensive million-control race on beautiful terrain. Failed to get into the 1:5000 maps scale for three controls (overshot no 3 by 30 secs) but then got into the flow. Really struggling with lungs and legs and wheels nearly coming off on a few controls.
Didn't feel very fit today but I must flow better than others - took the win by a reasonable margin.

Newton Primary School running club.
Some core and then some muddy running in Kippendavie Woods. Some kids have a natural affinity for mud, forest and outdoors (ie Jamie Connor) others have a real feel of being dirty and getting prickled by gorse bushes - pathetic! It'll be interesting to see what the drop-off rate is next week - plenty of these kids "can't handle the truth!"

Core, plyo and hill intervals on Newton Loan - 30/60/90/60/30
The kids were great this week (in contrast to last) and listened and applied themselves (in the main).
Great to see the coaches getting a workout too ! :-)

FVO Night Race - Bantaskine (new map!), planned by Steve S and assist by Gareth BJ.
Well, tired and unmotivated doesn't really sum up how I felt. But, new map, interesting planning, the fact I was there meant I had a good go at the course. Lots of great big holes to slip into and clamber out of. New map was pretty illegible with the sprint spec - disappointing. Restaurant choice - excellent!

Compass Sport Cup, Scottish Round, Beecraigs.
A really tough long middle race round a tough central Scotland forest! Caught by Ray Ward at the road crossing (after the fell-run start) and we worked well together thereafter - him pulling away on the longer path sections, me going cleaner in and out of most controls. Not the cleanest run (a few misses and put off by some questionable control placings and mapping but all-in-all an enjoyable, tough, day out.
Needless to say FVO are through to the final! :-)

Prologue. Forest sprint! Love it! But lacked any real speed.

Scottish Sprint Champs - Leg 2 - Stirling Uni North.
No energy but buoyed by the the thought of trying to chase Housewife. That wasn't to be - she went off like a frightened deer and in the end beat me! Not helped by failing to punch the finish (having borrowed an SI AIR and forgetting what to to do - thanks Sarah.
Enough for an M45 win, behind Ray and Claire thanks to Ben for completely missing the last control ! Miserable weather day.

Snowy, head-clearing terrain run out back. Absolutely loved it. There's something about being alone in the forest, just the wildlife to chase. High drifts a struggle on the open rides and crossing fields but enough forest terrain to make this enjoyable and mightily extendable. Fab.
