Pilates 1:00:00 [2]
weight:66.5kg

FVO Pilates & Circuits.
Tessa Hill - WOC athlete joined us!
Great pilates (as usual) and a nice power-based 2 x 25 secs set of circuits.
Was fun ;-)

4 PM

Road Bike 58:07 [4] 23.72 km (2:27 / km) +235m 2:20 / km
ahr:131 max:156

Ride from home out to Braco and back. Was hoping to climb up to Sheriffmuir but running out of time and suprised to be heading out into a northerly gust. Legs fell terrible (effects of Saturday ride) and very uncomfortable on the road bike saddle/hard tyres. Decided to man up and get to Braco and then push hard back.

32:54 Out
25:12 Back (Ave 2:08)

Straight home to pie and chips ;-P

Note
(rest day)

WOC Long Selection Race. Pleasant walk up to the Lady's finish on Witherslack with MC. That's all I could muster.

Another corker of an event and well done to GG for his win and near-win by Hollie (just behind Cat).

Whoop, whoop. Time to dash back home...

Friday Mar 28, 2014 #

8 AM

Run 35:09 [3] 5.04 km (6:58 / km) +205m 5:48 / km
ahr:131 max:159

Early morning run priort to the WOC Selection Races Middle - from Grasmere Hostel up towards Easedale Tarn. Blummin stoney paths round here, and wet! Sore calf and achilles and rough tracks/early start not helping - ouch!
4 PM

Mountain Bike 1:28:16 [4] 23.6 km (3:44 / km) +657m 3:17 / km
ahr:138 max:169

Great day at the Middle Selections - well done Doug and Hollie for the wins!

Snuck out from the hostel later in the day for a brutal, killer, mbk ride rounds some hills! Grasmere-HighClose-Elterwater-into Little Langdale-Great Langdale-Chapel Stile-High Close and home. Some well hard 25% climbs but worked at it and didn't give up.

A quality non-running session. Legs shattered ;-)

12 PM

Run 40:00 [3] 6.0 km (6:40 / km) +318m 5:16 / km
ahr:136 max:165

On to St Mags hill hoping to do a hill session. Right Achilles not ready yet so opted for a hilly soft run instead. Felt quite floaty on the hills.

12 PM

Run 27:20 [3] 4.5 km (6:04 / km) +100m 5:28 / km
ahr:133 max:167

A run out on St Mag's Hill. Body getting better, so much so that I did another loop up the hill to get the lungs working. Beautiful day, great to be out, even for such a short time.

Monday Mar 24, 2014 #

Note
(injured)

Left ankle throbbing throughout the night but compression, donkey-sized ibuprofen and elevation is working.
Thanks to Janine driving home I am still recovering quickly.

I should be walking without a hobble tomorrow.

Orienteering race 40:29 [5] 5.6 km (7:14 / km) +115m 6:33 / km

UKOL 4 - Middle Race at Givendale, Eborland.
Feeling a it broken this morning - achilles sore and rest of legs sore from hard surfaces yesterday. Janine came back with a tale of a tough forest with control-pick legs which fired me up. Had a longer than normal warm up (given we have splits starts and two kids to juggle it's normal "what's a warm-up?") and was concerned about the achilles. Needn't have worried because on the way to No 2 I stepped on a root that forced my right foot up to my shin and I thought I'd almost snapped my achilles (on the good leg). I hobbled for two controls and the pain wore off and so I kept going - a bit of discomfort never hurt anyone! Anyway, the terrain was soft and pretty runnable so I was enjoying it. Like the control pick even tough it was easy and got caught out a bit by the open knoll in the wrong place (but not by too much) and pushed on from there - Janine's shouting told me I was probably doing OK.
Waemed down at the finish but had to retire - left ankle had seized up and becoming unbearable. The injured right achilles seemed to have held up OK.

By late evening my ankle had swollen (following a bath with the kids) and I could hardly walk!

BUT I GOT A WIN TODAY! :-)

Jase 40:29
Rog 40:43 (Ouch!)

Saturday Mar 22, 2014 #

1 PM

Orienteering race 45:46 [4] 6.7 km (6:50 / km)

UKOL 3 - urban Race at Thirsk.
Didn't think this would be good for my achilles so went with the mindset of just picking the map up and seeing what there was. Guess what, I got a bit carried away - the central town but was fun and I tried not to push too hard on the achilles or on the cornering but yep I am having regrets this evening!

Thursday Mar 20, 2014 #

6 PM

Run 20:00 [3]

A quick run to try out the legs and see if I'm able to run at the weekend. A tentative "yes". Ran round Dunblane trying to find the softer footpaths and pushing hard on the hills to open the lungs.

Wednesday Mar 19, 2014 #

Note
weight:67kg

Calf recovering slowly (achilles), helped by Osteo having a go at it today. I know, sh'es very handy! Upper back now worked free - especially tight rhomboids loosened - head now all wobbly!

Felt strange all afternoon - usual post-chiropractic feelings.

Feels good. Still, no running till tomorrow or Friday....worringly empty week of training - pants.

Tuesday Mar 18, 2014 #

Note

After effects of sickness clearing slowly. Just dog-tired now. Oh and Devilla appears to have damaged my right achilles. No runnng at least till Wednesday.

Sunday Mar 16, 2014 #

12 PM

Orienteering 1:07:45 [4] 9.82 km (6:54 / km) +90m 6:36 / km
ahr:166 max:174

SOL 1, Devilla - KFO.
Well planned course by Jon Emeleus but boy was the forest tough!
I lost count of the number of times I fell over. Every other footfall was into bog or a hole! I really tried today - worked hard. But lack of terrain and weekly sessions showed - down 5 mins on Rog, 9 minutes on Sasha (whippersnapper!). Great run from Daniel.

Feeling broken now - looking forward to a relaxing pilates tomorrow ;-)

Much better though than the rest of the family who were all in bed by 6;45. Hannah wiped from sickness bout, Matthew undergoing sickness bout as we speak, Mum about to...

Saturday Mar 15, 2014 #

10 AM

Run 1:00:00 [3]

Hanging controls for the SEDS training short race on Sauchie.
Decent turnout - about 30 folk.

Hannah sick at lunch and at tea today ....
2 PM

Run 30:00 [3]

Only managed to get out to collect in the last loops of the course sadly - really fancied racing this (to beat Jess's - leading time!). Another time.

Friday Mar 14, 2014 #

Note

Physio.
Has helped explain why my right plantar is problematic, why I tore the inside of my calf last year and why the outside is sore too.
Knackered ankle flexion...

Thursday Mar 13, 2014 #

Note
(injured)

Damaged a nerve in my lower back/butt yesterday - reaching up to a top shelf (oh aye) in the supermarket.

Painful jarring nerve when moving laterally. Osteopath seen today - helps, but not sure I can run for a while....

Tuesday Mar 11, 2014 #

Run 46:44 [3] 8.03 km (5:49 / km) +326m 4:50 / km
ahr:136 max:164

Sunshine helped.

Upset about the weight gain too.

Sunday Mar 9, 2014 #

10 AM

Orienteering 54:03 [4] 7.3 km (7:24 / km) +354m 5:58 / km
ahr:156 max:170

Blue course at Uath Lochans. Body battered from yesterday and mind not on the job - completely missed no 1 and things didn't improve thereafter. Had to walk sections and nearly got beaten by Skyhigh ;-)

Not a bad weekend's terrain and map time though - much needed!

Saturday Mar 8, 2014 #

10 AM

Orienteering 1:03:04 [3] 8.8 km (7:10 / km) +421m 5:47 / km
ahr:147 max:168

A run from the Grantown house in terrain to revack where I then did a 2.6k course. Body not used to terrain - hard work. Followed by terrain run home. Great session!
4 PM

Orienteering 53:10 [3] 7.0 km (7:36 / km) +308m 6:14 / km
ahr:126 max:150

Run from Grantown House into Beachen Wood and then part of an old course. Body on empty and struggling with the terrain. Kept going but well jaded.

Thursday Mar 6, 2014 #

12 PM

Run 45:23 [3] 8.07 km (5:37 / km) +326m 4:41 / km
ahr:146 max:174

Kinnoull Hill. Again. Tired despite a better night's sleep.
Not yet ready for back-to-back training. Rest tomorrow.
Still, I pushed hard on the hill again.

Wednesday Mar 5, 2014 #

12 PM

Run 45:33 [3] 8.07 km (5:39 / km) +337m 4:40 / km
ahr:154 max:175

Tired, almost talked myself out of this.
J9 away (Vienna) and both kids had me up in the night (night terrors at 2:30 and dummy search at 5am).

Started steady but worked hard on the hill once warmed up. Not as bad as I expected. Bod coping OK.

It turns out I've been under entering on the climb for this run by miles!

Monday Mar 3, 2014 #

12 PM

Run 45:33 [3] 8.04 km (5:40 / km) +238m 4:56 / km
ahr:154 max:175

Nervous about running this - been a while since I've been up Kinnoull.
Thankfully the body was working OK and I pushed hard (harder than I perhaps should have) on the hill. To the top in sub 15 which I'm happy with considering the naff two months of training I've had.

Forced day off tomorrow. No bad thing.

Sunday Mar 2, 2014 #

10 AM

Run 42:53 [3] 7.5 km (5:43 / km)
ahr:136 max:177

Same as yesterday but with an extension in Laigh Hills and over Holm Hill. Less sore than yesterday but some things just won't stay in the right place!

Saturday Mar 1, 2014 #

10 AM

Run 36:40 [3] 6.6 km (5:33 / km)
ahr:139 max:164

Home to Ashfield and back along the river. Sore on downhills and short of stride. Nice to be out mind.
