Note

No JK for me.
I'm not going to miss the orienteering but I will miss the club banter, catching up with friends and keenly following the elites.

Caravan in the south lakes here we come!

Lovely views today.

Run 1:12:41 [3] 10.0 km (7:16 / km)
ahr:127 max:160

Run out the back. Very tired today and the snow was a bit deeper in the top woods so ended up trudging some of it.
Trying to find new routes round the top woods and about the Beauly Denny cut-through. Uploaded to Doma but my quickroute overlay has disappeared for some reason....

ahr:132 max:151

Spent most of the day at Glasgow Science centre with the family and the Connors. Tiring stuff!
Managed to squeeze a run in before dark - Gathering Stone from home. beautiful underfoot snow conditions (no more than 2 inches).

Glad we chose not to head to Grantown this weekend in the end.

Orienteering 48:41 intensity: (4:04 @1) + (24:00 @2) + (11:02 @3) + (9:23 @4) + (12 @5) 22.5 km (2:10 / km)
ahr:126 max:170

Charity static bike ride in aid of Scottish Charity Air Ambulance service in reception at work.
Ally (my partner in crime) and I rode side by side for 20 minutes and then, as they were short of takers I continued for a further 20 minutes.
22.5k ridden in 40 minutes - not very good in biking standards but I was definitely trying by the end! Had to jog round the building a few times for a warm down/lactic removal.

God fun!

Orienteering race 59:39 intensity: (10 @1) + (7:08 @2) + (14:58 @3) + (34:13 @4) + (3:10 @5) 7.02 km (8:30 / km) +243m 7:14 / km
ahr:153 max:171

FVO's last night race of the season planned by Mark Holliday at Fairy Knowe and Doon Hill.
Fab course planning in lots of nice bits. Shame I was a bit of a zombie physically but getting out was what was needed.
The Black Bull in Gartmore and a steak and ale pie & beer helped too.

Orienteering 15:53 intensity: (8:28 @2) + (5:51 @3) + (1:34 @4) 2.0 km (7:57 / km) +112m 6:12 / km
ahr:109 max:157

Collecting controls in with Elke Prasad.
She's a much better orienteer than I gave her credit for. And she is sooooo enthusiastic!

Run 30:08 intensity: (2:36 @1) + (24:28 @2) + (3:04 @3) 5.03 km (5:59 / km) +120m 5:21 / km
ahr:125 max:147

Post FVO weekend knackeredness.
Chose the easier/shorter option out the door at lunch.

Orienteering race 40:51 intensity: (8 @1) + (14 @2) + (14 @3) + (7:07 @4) + (33:08 @5) 6.89 km (5:56 / km) +32m 5:48 / km
ahr:170 max:178

FVO's UKOL3 at Tulliallan.
Jon made good use of the area - lots of short turning legs, traying to avoid the grot etc.
Stoked up on drugs, missed my start but ready to do my best. Neck and shoulders tight but I was so focussed on the run.....
A bit messy but nothing to write home about. Felt reasonably agile an endurance OK just a bit slow.

But.... 60 points so JOB DONE!

Then straight in car to the Trossachs!

Friday Mar 15, 2013 #

Note
(injured)

Neck and shoulders tensed up - emergency physio booked at 5:30pm.

Run towards Kinnoul Hill but I knew I was too tired to do the full lot so did the short loop.

Tired.

Monday Mar 11, 2013 #

Swimming 20:00 [3]

20 lengths whilst Matthew had his lesson.
Then an hour of fun in the wee pool (more strenuous than the lengths).

Sunday Mar 10, 2013 #

Orienteering 1:20:00 [3]

Craig A Barns - Tay - Blue Course
After yesterday I was clearly going to be no match for Claire - so the head-to-head last half way to No1.
Don't know why I went all the way round but just had to do the top bit. Although we went through the same felled area numerous times most of it was great.
ITB started to suffer after the very steep downhill leg and so I limped home from there.
15mins down on Claire.
Very tired.

Orienteering 1:27:36 [4] 8.82 km (9:56 / km) +515m 7:41 / km
ahr:158 max:176

A week off, feeling lazy and not interested. Then Rog goes and gets in touch asking me if I'll pre-run the Short Brown 1 course for next weekend.
YES!
God I love the Trossachs! Interesting navigation, micro route choices, variety of underfoot conditions (waterproof socks help only so far) and lots and lots of climb! So much that my body really wasn't ready for. I left a long trail of snot all round the course and, when I finally hit a bog that swollowed me up to the waist, I cramped in the calfs big time and just had to rest there for a while....
Got up eventually and carried on, because it's the Trossachs and Rog did a good job of the planning.

Faffed quite a bit hunting for tiny control tags, made one mistake of about 2 minutes (almost missed a control out) but other than that....

This course will not go under 70 ;-)

Run warm up/down 11:00 [2]

To and from Start/Finish.
Body is a bit broken now.....

Sunday Mar 3, 2013 #

Note

Janine still full of flu. Me wiped by exhaustion I think....not used to helping out so much at home, especially through the nights (yes, my wife is much harder than I cared to admit).

Hence a no-show at Gullane - Tess and Claire would have kicked my butt anyway so I just avoided the embarrassment ;-)

Instead I roller bladed while Matthew balance-biked the Doune railway, onto the playpark and then cafe for lunch. Then an afternoon trying to keep Matthew entertained, mainly in the garden.

Saturday Mar 2, 2013 #

Note

Janine full of the flu.

So I took Hannah and Matthew to Crieff to the Tay Come and Try It at McRory Park - wow - what a day! Great park, great event, great play park!
The sun made all the difference and I loved my five and half hours with the kids.

Washed the cars with Matthew to fill the rest of the afternoon. He washed me.
