Run 1:02:00 [3]

FVO headlamp Run from Uni.
Feeling tired and heavy again, this training isn't making me feel very bouncy at the mo!
Plodded on and slipped about and ran up lots of hills (thanks Dixie!) and then it was all over and a glass of red made it all better in the Westy.

Intervals 1:05:00 [5]

FVO & Ochils Intervals at Stirling uni.
A decent turnout (even Jon eventually made it!).
A good session again of 20 x 45/15s.
Made sure I exceeded 200+m every time - hard for a fat boy!

Adventure! 3:00:00 [4]

Birthday Adventure!
Attempt at the Ochills Ridge from Glendevon to the Sheriffmuir. With Brad, Will, Fraser and, eventually, Ross. Unfortunately, we were beaten by the weather - 2 foot of snow and strong winds on the tops, we would ecrtainly have perished had we attempted much further. Bailed out on the Maddy Moss track into Tillicoultry and along the high path to Alva Glen finishing with a few pints and food in the Cross Keys.
A brief respite back home and then it was out the the Riverhouse Restaurant with 19 others and then some more alcohol searching with J9, Jon X and Rosco.

Feeling knackered Monday morning!

Orienteering race 46:00 [5]

Edinburgh City Race.
Looking forward to going back to Edinburgh and checking out some new sights. EUOC had sorted a great base for the finish/assembly - free showers, car parking and great viewing, good vibe.
Somehow ended up with early starts but in the end it worked out well as J9 and I went shopping afterwards!
Ran pretty well, a poor decision to 5 and one or two small wobbles - maybe a minute in total. Happy to be on the right side of a larger pack.
17th placed.

Orienteering 35:00 [3]

Out the back of work (Achray) loosening off the legs and checking control sites for a March night o. Bracken is well down.
Found a nice bit of oak woodland that could do with adding to the map (would be good for a sprint if the new map is improved too!).

Note
(rest day)

Sadly, it would be unwise for me to do hills today.

Run race 26:09 [5] 6.0 km (4:22 / km)
ahr:170 max:177

Scottish Civil Service Cross Country at Stirling Uni.
Afternoon off, fine day, good rough and muddy course. What fun! Kind of!
First hard race of the year and it showed - flat after yesterday's intervals I found myself on my own half way round and so decided to settle for that position rather than a good time. Towards the end I pulled up on the guy in front and so had to overtake! Fortunately, I did this on a downhill section and got enough room on him to not have to work too hard uphill to the finish. A good FC turnout and so as 4th guy i didn't score and FC won!
Adam Ward 3rd, then Russelll Anderson and then Mike Anderson and I was 30 secs off them two. Miranda Burrows was 1st lady for the FC too!
HBT!

Run warm up/down 30:00 [2]

Orienteering race 49:00 [5] 5.1 km (9:36 / km)
ahr:167 max:178

No rest for the wicked!
FVO Night Race, Polmaise. Planned by Jon X.
A good turnout including 5 from Edinburgh Uni. A great mass start and early mixing. I was stiff from the X-C and chose to stay back. This helped later on the gaffling loops where I ran cleaner than some (caught Will twice!) and I just went steady to the finish. Surprising how I run harder in orienteering than I do in an X-C race!!

Followed by a top night at Smiling jacks. Happy Birthday Elle!

Run warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Sore calves, tight legs!

Intervals intervals 55:00 [5]

FVO Intervals.
It was cold and slightly wet but as usual we seemed to be dry on the intervals themselves.
14 x 70 on 20 off - but I realised I had 2 races planned for tomorrow so stopped at 10 sets. Good job really - tight calves, got the treatment when I got home.
Quite a few crocks tonight - Jack pulled up early, no Rosco, Jon, Dixie....

Orienteering 39:00 [5] 5.1 km (7:39 / km)

SEDS Training. Green course on Inchmarnoch - over the river at Cambus O' May. A quality course in light green for most of the way. reminded me of Tampere, Finland. Vague contours, few line features and subtle control placings. I ran OK but tiring at the end with a few sloppy time losses. About all i could manage today. Impressed that the SEDS lot had already done a long run!

Orienteering 2:05:00 [4]

SEDS Training in Royal Deeside. 33 people atttending some quality training planned by Big Jon and organised by Colin & Lorna. A quality line was followed by an excellent mixed course and line at Sluie. T-shop at Aboyne and then over to Dess at Jon & Sarah's for a tough contour only course. A chilly but dry day with some tough training - my core and proprieception were suffering by the end!

Intervals hills 1:00:00 [5]

FVO Hills.
My first session of the year. Roger, Louise and Abi for company so we agreed to do them on the quiet and well-lit (until the last interval) back 'o castle walk. 3 x 7 x 30 on/30 off with jog back down a little on recovery and big jog back down between sets. I wasn;t really up for working hard but I got well into the mood on the 2nd and 3rd sets and got pushed by Abi (blazing a trail!) and supported by Coach Jon enough to get a really good workout.
Result.

Mountain Bike 45:00 [2]

Drove to Stirling to get the bearing sorted on the car (and hopefully an MOT this afternoon if they can fit me in) and rode home.
I can't believe I've done 20,000 miles in the wee pet in the last 11 months! The poor bugger. At -1 it was a bit chilly for my ride home - lots of ice on the tracks! My ears nearly fell off.

Mountain Bike 35:00 [2]

Rode into Stirling to collect car (new bearing AND MOT! It required just one new wiper blade - bargain!). No ice this afternoon, and dry, unlike tonight! Washed the car to show my appreciation.

Run 48:00 [3]

FVO Run and Soup from Brad and Beccy's.
It was cold and very wet ;-( Tired from a busy day's activities, sore right achilles and generally miserable weather I opted for the shorter run and escorted SkyHigh home.
Fab choice of soups, breads and puddings at B&B's! With wine. Top nosh!

Intervals intervals 1:00:00 [5]

FVO Intervals at Striling Uni.
My first of the year. The track was icy! Bloody northern weather!
Despite that we did a good warm up and drills and then did 90 on and 30 off. Everybody working well and taking care on the far corner which was especially icy. This sustained workout was just what an icy track needed - any faster and we'd have all been in a large pile on the far bend!

Run 1:15:00 [3]

After scattering my Dad's ashes on his "estate" - the Inman Ranch.
I was free to get a run in. Drove up to the Danefield and parked on the SE edge and did a run right round the edge of Danefield and the Chevin taking in all the slope (very very windy on the top but sheltered on the N-facing slope). Calfs very tight from yesterday so more of a plod than a good run - glad to have done it though.
Popped in on the Grimlaws on way home - they had good words to say about Northrop's map of Tankersley.
A very wet and wild drive home - just missed a lorry overturning and a 4-car pile-up!

Run 47:00 [4]

Home in Leeds visiting Mum.
After clearing the loft so the insulation man can sort it next week I had time to head out for a run before dark. Ran my old (short) run up into newlaithes and across the fields to Rodley then round the canal back. As soon as I hit the canal I did some quality 30/30s all the way back - driving hard and getting the HR up. A shock to the system! I was too quick round the run so had to add an extra run in Bramley Fall Woods as a warm down. Great place to live - no wonder I was good as a kid!

Run tempo 45:00 [4]

Turned up to the inaugural FVO hills session to find just Rosco (who didn't fancy hills - his 2nd session of the day) and Jon X the Master (who didn't have two healthy feet to do hills with).
So, Ross and I decided to do a steady run around Kings Knott, Kings Park and the golfcourse. A run, which of course, turned out to be a tempo run for me, so almost as good as hills!

Orienteering 57:00 [5]

FVO Night O - Stirling Town
An excellent race planned by Rosco, lots of twisting and turning and sly routes to try to avoid black lines. Headlamp failed on me about 1/3 of the way into it so I had some hairy fun in the open hillside bit, slipping about in trainers. Again I was way down on the leaders.
Top curry at Mr Singh's afterwards.

A really great first club night back after New Year, cheers Rosco!

Walk 2:35:00 [2]

Janine's birthday. Took her to Crieff and we went on a jolly we janut through woods, hills and valleys around Crieff (including the Knock), then we went for a relaxing couple of hours at the Victirian Spa at the Hydro there. After considering eating at the Hydro we decided we'd rather eat at Mr Singh's in Stirling - so it looks I'll be there two nights in a row!

Orienteering race 1:01:00 [5]

New area near Dulnain Bridge. Small, but runnable with some nice detail. Went off hard to catch Ackers 2.5 mins, nearly caught him but then hit the wall after 25 minutes (!!) and just urvived the rest. To find that Ackers had beaten me by about 20 seconds!

Mountain Walk 2:15:00 [2]

J9 and I wanted to do Bynack Moor but the weather was Dreich so went and did Ben Rinnes. A nice wee hill. The weather actually improved a bit as we hit the top so we good some good views of the clouds below us, temporarily.

2008
354 hours in 366 days. Damn that flu and cold last month!
Hey-ho, I was never gonna beat Jon X!
