Run 32:00 [3]

Got out from home with Skyhigh after work.
Had to run on the paths round the town as it was so dark!
And freezing!

Thursday Oct 30, 2008 #

Note
(rest day)

Attended a UK Coaching seminar on Motivation and Mental Toughness.

Didn't learnt much more than I knew already, but there were plenty of "mental" people there. How can orienteering be regarded as so lowly a sport when people who undertake it are so much brighter than people in other sports!?!

Run warm up/down 25:00 [3]

Orienteering race 1:00:00 [4]

FVO Night Series 1. Touch Hill.
I was pretty appalling tonight. My compass never seemed to work and my poor eyesight failed to pick out the groundshapes and the controls.
Tired from yesterday's intervals, I soon lost interest. Which was a shame - Martin had planned a challenging course and the others had a good crack at it. Ross winning it after Will & Fraser made a gross error on the way to the last - comedy!
Dinner at the Pirnhall after.

Intervals intervals 24:00 [5]
ahr:170 max:178

FVO Intervals on the track, joined by Ochil Hillrunners who will hopefully be joining us througout the winter!
So, a large group of about 16 I think.
5 x 4 mins with 60 secs recovery.

I really enjoyed my first return to track. I found a good consistent pace (although a bit slower than I need to be) and concentrated on good posture and breathing.

I really, really enjoyed track - amazing!

Run warm up/down 40:00 [2]

Good to see a fleeting visit by Kirsty B-J.
Some excellent comedy sprints - I was well caught out on the start whistles!

Pilates 35:00 [3]

A new set tonight.
I didn't really get my head round things that well, but nobody went twang.
Just phaaarp!
Tired tonight, very tired.....

Run warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Orienteering 1:41:00 [4]

Shadowing Bradski at the SOL at Craig a Barns.
The weather had improved from yesterday, just a tad cold and a we bit of rain but mainly sunny. It was a great tough course and Brad took it really well - only two or three misses which I would blame on me or the map, not Brad. Really enjoyed being out in the forest, running pretty well - under the young trees and through the rough - couldn't keep up with Brad on the runnable bits though!
T-shop at Birnam after then home and onto Lucy's 3rd birthday party.....

Run warm up/down 15:00 [3]

Saturday Oct 25, 2008 #

Mountain Bike 1:20:00 [3]

Ride out with the Allison family from home.
Into Dunblane, up past the high school on the old bridleway and then south over the Keir road, round Row and into Doune. A quick chocolate stop in Doune and then back along the old railway.
It was lashing it down and very windy - the boys did well to stay on their bikes! Great to get out and feel like we did something.

Note
(rest day)

Saw the McTimoney Chiropracter tonight.
I needed a good MOT, haven't been for 2 years.
2 days forced rest now.....

Run 42:00 [3]

An easy headlight run at Beecraigs that turned into an even easier run when Ben Finch twisted his ankle.
It was fun trudging through the woods and mud whilst it lasted.

Then onto the curry house to celebrate Alibongo's 21st!

Intervals intervals 45:00 [4]

Went through to Edinburgh for the day and caught up with Hollie, Hector, Hazel & Doug and saw lots of others (incl Spongey) at intervals.
Intervals on the Meadows with the Hareys. Lots of fast people - a good session if you're a top dude.

Too many people for my liking (was like running the first few 100m of x-c for every interval - so not able to properly open up or concentrate on my posture).

No warm down - regretting it it now.

Pilates 40:00 [3]

Circuits 35:00 [4]

Orienteering race 1:03:10 [5] * 10.1 km (6:15 / km) +150m 5:49 / km
ahr:170 max:180

Compass Sport Cup - running for FVO.
At Sutton Park, Birmingham. Blummin' long way for a gorse and x-c fest!
Attacked hard from the start - too hard - missed at 5 - a really easy control and couldn't get used to the gorse and veg mapping thereafter. Not really an excuse - I was running too hard (maximally) and not using my skills effectively at times. Still, a good blast.

despite a few FVO poor runs there were enough very, very excellent runs to ensure a small margin of victory for the club! How do we do it!?!
Well done to Jon X for masterminding yet another trophy haul.

Run 32:00 [3]

A wee morning jog through the beauty that is Bramley Fall, with Skyhigh. A real nice run with lots of Autumn colours - a wicked area for a forest sprint amongst the small quarries!

Note
(rest day)

Well earnt.
Calf massage, some basic pilates (not enough to post) and stretching all planned for tonight whist catching up on Heroes or watching 12 Monkeys.

Wednesday Oct 15, 2008 #

Run 1:17:00 [4]

FVO headlight run from Fraser & Peggy's at Menstrie.
As expected Fraser took us straight up into the Ochills - and I promptly hit the wall after about 40 minutes - feeling very dead tonight. The super fast pace on the return home saw me off.

Glad to get back and enjoy peg's fabulous soup and SEPA cakes.

Tuesday Oct 14, 2008 #

Intervals 54:00 [5]

FVO intervals

2 x 5 x 60on/off with 3 mins between sets.

Took the last set a bit steadier - tired from travelling.
It didn't make Abi coming past me any less galling!

Monday Oct 13, 2008 #

Pilates 35:00 [3]
weight:69.3kg

Circuits 40:00 [4]

Run warm up/down 10:00 [3]

Run 32:00 [3]

EYOC Relay - Podium for the 16 boys and silver for M20s!

A quick run with Gareth and Ewan after a long day at the Relays.
Across the small town of Wangen an der Ass and into the woody hills and then back across town taking in some sprint o controls (which I failed to switch in to when given the map).

EYOC Classic
Some excellent results from our juniors today!

Thursday Oct 9, 2008 #

Note
(rest day)

Travelling most of the day and then trying to get my head around us all sleeping at three different venues - stupid Swiss idea!

Wednesday Oct 8, 2008 #

Orienteering 35:00 [4]

Sprint Race training with Jamie and Abi - final preparation for EYOC.
Helped by Ewan and Ross and planned by Jon X.
A good session which I think both athletes took a lot from.
Best wishes to them & the GB team - taking 16s for the first time ever (at last!).

Tuesday Oct 7, 2008 #

Intervals 1:00:00 [5]

FVO Intervals.
Around a very wet University Loch (I needed my snorkle for one extra large puddle!).

3 sets of 6 x 30/30 with 2 mins between sets.

Everybody worked real hard and it was a fab session for speed and posture. Respect to Jack and Elle who were in overdrive tonight.
Jamie's jog was still faster than anyone ;-(

Monday Oct 6, 2008 #

Pilates 30:00 [3]

Our only exercise was a walk round the vilage and to seet the "tandem pair" off at the racecourse before 6 hours of driving between relatives and home...

Saturday Oct 4, 2008 #

Run 41:00 [4]

Out at 7 in the morning with Andy Monro (aka Weasel). Our only chance to get a run in before a long day as Ushers at Chris Poole's wedding in Cartmell, S.Lakes. We ran up Hampsfell to the Hospice (where I need admitting..... to many friday beers?). Weather attrocious! How can it be so nice on Friday and Sunday and so bad inbetween!?!

Friday Oct 3, 2008 #

Run 41:00 [4] +284m

Run from work at lunch time.
Brilliant sunny day for it. Did 10 min warm up and then 16 x 30/30 on the Lime Craig hill track. It worked really well, got a great workout and some fab views of the Trossachs. 10 mins jog back and back at my desk within the hour. Perfect. Legs tired from the downhill!

Run 1:00:00 [3]

Run with the FVO gang from Doune with pub meal at the Woodside Hotel after. Deano was taking things easy in the run-up to the VHIs so the main group only did 45 mins while Stalker Hoey and I did an extra loop to make it an hour. Headlamps out for the first time!
