Mountain Walk 1:10:00 [1]

Walk from Tonga Bay to Bark Bay hut - dead easy and a welcome change to kayaking! Bark Bay Hut much much nicer than Anchorage.

Kayak 4:00:00 [3]

Anchorage Bay to Tonga island kaying, via a visit to the seal colony and a poor attempt to get on and off a steep beach! Both Janine and I nearly drowned! The boat taxis go whizzing past far too quickly! So lucky with the weather - always sun, sun, sun!

Kayak 5:00:00 [3]

First day kaying on Abel Tasman coastline. My God it's beautiful! I can't describe how beautiful, best day since I got married I reckon! The beautiful colours of the sea and blue sky and white beaches - just excellent. Finished up and stayed at Anchorage - unfortunately full of punters who had caught the water taxis and hadn't earnt their stay in paradise.

Note

Motueka. Had planned to drive to the foot of Mount Arthur and do a nice big walk but the track up to the car park was so steep the folks had a fit and insisted I turned the car round before it blew up. As it was the brakes nearly failed on the way down but don't tell them that! In he end we did a poxy walk along the Motueka Spit and spotted wildlife. Not really worth putting in TD. Oh, well more to come.....

Sunday Jan 27, 2008 #

Mountain Walk 4:30:00 [2]

Last day of QC tramp. Glad it's all over - quite a big climb to start with and then fairly steady. Back to Picton by water taxi.

Saturday Jan 26, 2008 #

Mountain Walk 5:30:00 [3]

Day 2 of Queen Charlotte Track - very nice day -got up high on the hills and got some amazing views. Stayed in Portage in a place with great views from your balcony - v hot eating dinner on the quayside at 9 at night! Lurverly!

Mountain Walk 6:00:00 [3]

My Birthday!
What a way to spend it - day 1 of the Queen Charlotte Sounds tramp. Long walking but some spectacular views and Mahana Homestead where we ended up was soooo nice - could have stayed there for days. J9 had organised a cake for me and it was brill - G&L bought me some binoculars so I was well happy chappy - fabby!

Mountain Walk 2:03:00 [4]

9 and I ran the Snout Track from Picton and out and back run pretty much, along a ridge going all the way out into the bay. Picton is so gorgeous - can't believe the main ferries to north island go from such a beautiful sound!

Terrain Run intervals 40:00 [4]

Woken at 6 by punters getting the arly whale -watch boat so decided to go for an interval session along Kaikoura Beach.
16 x 60/30s with w/up and down.
Then whale watching on a catamaran style boat - saw two sperm wales and lots of fur seals. Best part of the trip was the rough seas and bouncing boat - two people sick!
Kaikoura to Picton via Marlborough and a brief stop at St Clair's Winery - all the wines tased tasted like sub 3 pounders to me - philistine.
Arrived in beautiful picton great evening sun setting over the bay.
Pizza!
Just about to be dragged out to see some glow worms (40 mins walk I think). 9:30pm.

Tuesday Jan 22, 2008 #

Mountain Walk 2:30:00 [2]

Drive from Clayton's to Kaikoura.
Then tried to walk the clifftop walk and the shoreline walk - unforunately the shoreline wasn't passable at two points due to high tides and too many viscisus sea lions so scramble a lot. V hot day and we'd all frgotten sun cream - I am now a beetroot.

Mountain Walk 2:00:00 [4]

Roz took us on a walk from one of the passes in Hamner up to Mount Isabel. Fabulous climb with a worn out Baz (dog). A good strong push all the way up and saunter down.
Trip to Hanmer springs in the afternoon - open air chillin'!

Sunday Jan 20, 2008 #

Terrain Run 59:00 [3]

Headlamp run with FVO gang - led by Dixie.
Felt terrible tonight - no energy and couldn't get heart rate up - even the wife was ahead of me! Didn't feel I earnt the right to round up the session to 1 hour. Good banter at the Westy afterwards - as usual.
Jamie Jnr Jnr is getting bigger every hour!

Tuesday Jan 15, 2008 #

Intervals intervals 24:00 [5]
ahr:166 max:178

Intervals at Stirling uni.
Record turnout with Ochils and FVO together - 22 people!

12 x 90 secs on/ 30 secs off followed by the usual sprints.
Tough session - I struggled with breathing and was off the pace a bit. Great to see the orienteers leading the pack and jon X flying along!

Warm/up and down, running drills and jog round Lake with lads.

Monday Jan 14, 2008 #

Weather was pish but because the o'ing was so fabby you didn't notice. Brill long session!

Saturday Jan 12, 2008 #

Orienteering 50:00 [3]

Shadowing Alice and collecting controls on Great Tower - fabulous this time of year.

Orienteering 50:00 [4]

GB Junior Squad weekend, Lakes
Hanging controls with fear of being hunted down, on Eggerslack - great limestone area.

Orienteering race 19:00 [4]

Sprint O on Great Tower - coaches race - had no energy (too much earlier training) and navigated like a donkey - so beaten by Andy Simpson and James Williams easily.

Friday Jan 11, 2008 #

Note
(rest day)

Carrying the physio table and kit to the station and to the car hire place will probably amount to a good strength session!

Thursday Jan 10, 2008 #

Intervals hills 1:02:00 [4]

First Hill session of the season.
6 hardy FVO'ers met at the foot of the castle to do a quality hill session.
Jon X decided the set and from then on he was the man - flying he was.
Dixie was trying his best to keep up but his tiredness showed as he kept trying to stop too early! (Only joking!)
30/60/90/120/150/120/90/60/30 with jog back recoveries.
Well done Louise - best female!

Wednesday Jan 9, 2008 #

Orienteering 1:03:00 [3] 7.0 km (9:00 / km)

Still not 100% so made sure I couldn't race by agreeing to collect controls. Had to wait for stragglers on occasions but enjoyed being out - the new Campus ISSOM Standard sprint map was brill!

Stuck in traffic for 2.5 hours on way out of Edinburgh after a GIS training course due to Forth Road bridge being closed!

Tuesday Jan 8, 2008 #

Intervals 45:00 [2]

Intervals at Uni track.
Still full of cold so led warm up and down, explained the session and chased a few ladies up and down some of the intervals trying to keep my HR down!
14 x 1 min on/1 min off.

Monday Jan 7, 2008 #

Note
(sick)

Cold - bad!

Sunday Jan 6, 2008 #

Mountain Bike 2:05:00 [3]

Set out to ride to foot of Ben Lomond and walk up it but I dropped the map early on and lost 30 mins looking for it, then the weather turned bad! Couldn't ride the tracks! Ended up doing a circular bike route just to get some training in.

Full of cold!

Saturday Jan 5, 2008 #

Fell Race race 28:24 [5]

Callander Crags Hill Race.
Didn't push 100% up the hill - worried I might bleed to death because of the clot in the tooth after yesterday - but legged it off the hill - great in the snow!
Great FVO set of results - Brad 4th, Jase 8th, Jon 13th!

Ross and Jamie - where were you??!

Friday Jan 4, 2008 #

Easy Run 23:00 [3]

Quick run in the snow after being sent home from work early because of the snow and just before getting my tooth removed - Ouch! Big hole!

Thursday Jan 3, 2008 #

Note

First day back at work ;-(

At least it's quiet. No training today.

Wednesday Jan 2, 2008 #

Road Bike tempo 1:10:00 [4]
