Mountain Bike 3:00:00 [2] 25.0 km (7:12 / km)

Family bike ride (with Grandparents) whilst Janine wins the British!
From Callander to Strathyre on the old railway. Hannah on the tag-a-long with mee, Matthew riding his (almost too small Isla bike). Fabulous sunshine for most of it, great company and the kids did a great job of getting on with it and having fun. Helped by two tea shops and cakes, hot chocolate and ice cream (glad it's tarmacked until the Strathyre cabins now!).
Managed to catch most of the Stuc hill race folk before they headed to the start too. A good day (followed by more axeing and teaching H to ride a pedal bike (she's keen!).

Road Bike 29:54 [2] 12.11 km (2:28 / km)

A bum-on-seat session from work over to Moneydie and Pitcairngreen.
Tired. Very cold NE breeze!

Orienteering 1:40:00 [2] 10.0 km (10:00 / km)

Hanging controls on Kinnoull Hill for an o'intervals session for Graham, Spongey and Fanni. Lovely evening for it, despite the intermittent hail storm. Had to go back out when I realised I'd only hung GG's course controls and not Ali's!

Toby Carvery after ;-)

11 AM

Road Bike 59:04 [3] 23.54 km (2:31 / km) +280m 2:22 / km

Early lunch escape to try avoid the impending rain.
Back on the road bike - usual lunchtime route Moneydie towards Methven and round towards Harrietfield and back.
Very blustery day, getting buffeted about by a strong, cold northerly for most of it.

Enjoyable in a funny kind of way.

Note
(rest day)

Achilles has been niggly since a hard surface session on Tuesday. Got progressively worse yesterday and quite sore last night. So, no bainer to miss today and a few days of running. Hopefully, I'll be OK for Wednesday - helping the WC guys on Kinnoull Hill.

Spent the day setting up and running the start from beginning to end with Marsella & Geoff. Sun came out, scenery was stunning. Life is good. I think the event was a success - happy to help anytime when the quality of orienteering is this good.

Orienteering race 23:43 [4] 3.1 km (7:39 / km)

JOK Chasing Sprint Rd 1, Faskally.
Raced hard and survived the technical and physical (bracshings!) challenge OK apart from 30 secs at one control. Don't think I'm as agile in this stuff as I should/could be.
2 PM

Orienteering 28:00 [4] 3.4 km (8:14 / km)

JOK Chasing Sprint - Chase.
Behind Rog and Charlie and no hope of catching either. Plan was to try hold Ben off (20 secs) and I managed to do that simply because we were as knackered as each other. Spent.

8 AM

Mountain Bike 34:00 [2]

From D&G Perth into work. Fiesta in for MOT & Service.
4 PM

Mountain Bike 30:00 [2]

Work to garage. MOT and service with no bother (except they've moved the back wheels to the front for better grip and the back ones weren't balanced right! It'll have to go back in ;-(

5 PM

Run 46:00 [3]

Up Dumyat on way back from working in the Borders. Gorgeously sunny in singlet and shorts. Very busy. 27:20 to top from med centre. 18:30 back. I predict some DOMS. Lungs struggling. Legs good.
6 PM

Run 8:00 [3]

Stagger warm down.

Road Bike 2:12:00 [3] 51.64 km (2:33 / km) +500m 2:26 / km

First cycle of the year, first ride to work of the year. Couldn't resist the beautiful weather and although BALTIC to start (2 degrees) things soon warmed up and the back roads to Perth are Sooooo beautiful.

Tried to new sections which reduced distance considerably (by 3.6k) but the first bit was on the Braco-Crieff road and has too many fast cars on!

My butt didn't like it one bit.

Tuesday Apr 19, 2016 #

12 PM

Run 36:45 [3] 8.01 km (4:35 / km)

First hard run for a while. Still tightnes in groin (Sand dunes!) but stride length improving. Sunny and dry (t-shirt and shorts!) weather. Usual route from work. Lungs struggling with the effort!

Sunday Apr 17, 2016 #

9 AM

Run 27:24 [2] 4.57 km (6:00 / km)

Tired from yesterday and still tight in groin area so one loop of the Kings Park then cheering on at ParkRun then run to G&L's for a DIY-support day.
Matthew new PB!

Saturday Apr 16, 2016 #

10 AM

Run 37:46 [2] 4.53 km (8:20 / km)

Run to papershop whilst Matthew rode - looping here and there and ending up at Co-Op. Pushing M on the hills.
Very tight in groin/glutes/stride.
Followed by 7 hours of wood cutting and axing (Phew!)

Thursday Apr 14, 2016 #

1 PM

Run 31:05 [3] 5.07 km (6:08 / km)

Back home by lunch time so no excuse for a run but feeling very jaded (fitful night and 5:30 start) so wobbled down to Laigh Hills and back. Calfs still sore from a week of sand dunes - or is is waterpark ?

Orienteering 50:51 [3] 7.02 km (7:15 / km)

Last day at La Marina. A sunny 20+ yet again. Chose to do a control pick today using the jwoc qualy all- controls map. Swam in the med this aft. Surprisingly. Warm!

Met the Belgium Orienteering President on the site today - holidays here over winter. Small world.

Terrain Run 33:00 [3]

Down to the beach and south till the river and back. I find sea views boring. Much prefer hills and forest.

Monday Apr 11, 2016 #

8 AM

Orienteering 45:11 [3] 5.75 km (7:51 / km)

Another JWOC qualifier course on Guardamar Norte. 1st day I've had to bail out to relocate :-p

Sunday Apr 10, 2016 #

8 AM

Terrain Run 30:25 [3] 4.8 km (6:20 / km)

Set out with the intention of doing a long Sunday terrain run but struggled to wake the body up on the walk out of the holiday park let alone set a decent pace along the dunes. Decided I'd better maintain some energy for another long day at the waterpark and snuck in the obligatory 30 minutes. Pleasant, but tight and tired. More wine needed ;-)

Saturday Apr 9, 2016 #

8 AM

Orienteering 46:48 [3] 6.44 km (7:16 / km)

Training on Guardarmar North (not much further jog from cabin). Doing a rock hard jwoc 96 training course (with no flags obviously). Hillier on this side and sandier. Tough.

Friday Apr 8, 2016 #

8 AM

Orienteering 51:09 [3] 7.71 km (6:38 / km)

Training on LA Marina on the doorstep of our cabin practically. Big shock going straight into technical 1:10 forested dunes. Loved it. Esp the long warm down from north end of map picking the nicest bits to run through.
10 AM

Gym 30:00 [2]

Making use of the gym to work on core and back strengthening. Lots of stretching too. Kids absolutely blown away by the water park and playparks etc.

Thursday Apr 7, 2016 #

Note
(rest day)

Sore back. Flying to Alicante.

Wednesday Apr 6, 2016 #

Note
(rest day)

Hurt my back. Probably being careless when loading the car or messing with the kids.

Tuesday Apr 5, 2016 #

10 AM

Run 2:49:47 [3] 21.31 km (7:58 / km) +559m 7:03 / km

Blessed with Grandparenting time Janine and I managed to get in a long run in the Lakes! From Witherslack Hall south and across to the top of Witherslack then due west over low hills to do a circuit of Simpsons Ground then back east and home. Day brightening as we went, good company, beautiful wee paths, lanes, hamlets, churches etc and body held out OK - mild ITB pain from 100 mins which stayed minor. Fab!

Monday Apr 4, 2016 #

Note
(rest day)

Family walk up to the Hospice on Hampsfell. We had Hannah. If we'd just had M we'd have had to run up! :-p

Sunday Apr 3, 2016 #

11 AM

Orienteering race 1:02:37 [4] 6.5 km (9:38 / km) +365m 7:31 / km

Holme Fell Sort Brown 2. Attacked this and tried to go aggressively. Bloody stoney and slippy. Fared ok but lost the plot in the west end quarries where the map wasn't up to it. But there was no way of getting ahead if Charlie and Quentin who both outran me on the climbs and long legs. Quality event and the sun came out! :-)

11 AM

Orienteering race 36:44 [4] 4.1 km (8:58 / km) +215m 7:06 / km

Tarn Hows middle race. Brown. Peeing it down and not really prepd for this. Cocked up 2 big time overshooting on the 1:7500. Scrappy thereafter. Working hard an trying to stay on it but rusty terrain and technique. Showing. Four (!) M 50+s in front of me!
