Orienteering 50:00 [3]

A run from Louise's and then soup after.
Got a pleasant run out (despite the muddyness) and able to test out my calf. Feels floppy and unattached but should be OK for the Harvester!

Note

Back home. Tired.

Note

Went to collect my map for the chasing race and pttered straight back.Enjoyed the rest of the week with a bit of rowing, swimming, chilling at our cabin by a lake in the middle of nowhere.....

Orienteering 1:03:47 [3]

TAKAS Day 3.
Feeling stiff and tired today and having second thoughts about running. Wish I had - got warmed up OK but put my bad leg down a rabbit hole or something 2/3 of way round and re-tore my calf. Not as bad as originial injury and I lumbered round the rest - end of my running for the week.

Orienteering race 36:57 [4]

TAKAS Day 2.
Feeling braver today so attacked it. Happy with the run apart from being beaten on the run-in by the 2nd placed guy, so in 3rd place today.

Orienteering 10:00 [2]

TAKAS Sprint Knock-out in Zarasai Town.
I had asked Greg Hull to take my run but he wasn't in the mood so I appeared in trousers and evening shirt to run. Managed to qualify into the next round! First 15 back got a map and could carry on, then the first 8 back got a map and then the first 4 made the final - a continous race - great idea. I passed my 2nd map to Geoff Hensman who was similarly dressed to me.

Event: Takas 2012

Orienteering race 47:16 [3]

TAKAS Day 1
Taking a while to get into the map and leafy vegetation but enjoying the challenge, whilst trying not to get injured.
6th. Winner is a multiple WOC attendee for Estonia.

Run 55:00 [4]

Run from work over Tay and up into Kinnoull Hill. Made it to the top today - to enjoy fine sunny 360* views. Lots of elephant tracks from yesterday's Jamie Stevenson Trophy event. It's quite a climb... and my calf wasn't too happy about it... Lovely wood to have on your doorstep.

Road Bike 1:15:00 [4]

Deep See World with the family in the morning then helped friends move some heavy stuff from BofA to their new home in Crieff (fab views towards Comrie!). Then rode back home using the back road at Muthill and at Braco. Soggy - but had the right kit on.

Run 54:00 [3] 6.0 km (9:00 / km)

New map, new are - Falkirk Wheel and woods.
How cool was that - parking above the wheel with tremendous view of the fabulous engineering structure and sweeping views of the Forth Valley. A great area with a good mix of runnability and technicality - would make an excellent national middles area.
Shadowed young Ben Parkinson round the long course- aged 11 he's pretty good - got the fitness no trouble and not afraid to tackle any leg - a bit too poorly disciplined to get all the way round cleanly - have set him some homework!

Run 20:00 [3]

Collecting in controls (and people).
Wheelhouse restaurant after - £8.95 two-course meal and fabby cool place!

Note

Olympic Torch in Dunblane this morning - Matthew loved the police vehicles, didn't really get the Torch thing.

Found this website today - random!

Boys relay - 8th place in 1990..... where are they now???

Run 38:36 [3] 6.61 km (5:50 / km)
ahr:134 max:175

Run from my new work across the park towards Perth town and over the railway bridge and into Kinnoul Hill. Just did the tiniest of loops and then came back. I think I could get fit working at this office!
Chuffed that I have a shower at work too!

Calf not enjoying the long'ish session but just grumbling, other calf came out in sympathy at 2/3 way.

10 AM

Road Bike 1:16:05 [4] 32.0 km (2:23 / km)
ahr:141 max:164

Rode to the orienteering.
Dunblane-BofA-Cornton-Riverside-Springkerse-Fallin-Airth-Kincardine-event.
A really fun ride, into a NE breeze but a nice set of roads, not too busy and quite downhill and flat so enjoying the speed. Struggled with the last hill to the event at Devilla.
12 PM

Orienteering 1:20:00 [2] 4.3 km (18:36 / km)

Coaching Sterling at the Devilla SOSOL.
Light Green course in a very tough forest, hard running and very hard navigating - for a novice. He's getting the hang of it though.
My calf coped quite well - no concerns when I have time to watch where I put my feet.

Road Bike 1:03:00 [4]

Road bike session - Dunblane-Doune-Deanston-Callander back road-Thornhill-BlairDurmmond.
Riding with a pack on my back but pure sauntering until the Stirling Bike Club caught up with me on the Callander back road with Fraser P. So I jumped on the back and hung on till they parted (off to Duke Pass). A bit slower thereafter before joining the family at that farm I can never remember the name of. Much fun with Matthew on the ride-on tractors.

Orienteering 18:49 [3] 3.1 km (6:04 / km)
ahr:131 max:152

My first attempt at jogging.
Can jog OK providing I limp a bit. No worries!
A nice orange course at the new Tulluallan map - thanks Fraser!
PS - I won ;-)

Run 20:00 [1]

A jog from the middle event field.
Calf improving good - just wish the miscle would attach to the bone more quickly so it doesn't feel like my leg is flapping about!

Well chuffed for the results today. Doug 1st, Nixon 2nd. Claire also appears to have the pick over what races she wants to do after a reasonable weekend (pretty shit by all account ;-)

Major downer of the weekend - Hollie. Having damaged her ankle at the long it would appear her WOC selection attempts were over there and then.

Road Bike 49:40 [5] 20.0 km (2:29 / km)
ahr:147 max:170

Another chance to get on the bike for a time trial.

Home-Ashfield-Braco-Greenloaning to top of Sheriffmuir Road. Went out fairly hard and pushed from half way along the back road. Gutted myself up the climb to Sheriffmuir.
I daresay this is a pb!

Road Bike 14:00 [3] 6.35 km (2:12 / km)

Cruisy recovery down past the pub (wish I'd carried some change) and home.

Road Bike 1:30:00 [4] 25.0 mi (3:36 / mi)

Thanks to Andy Simpson I had my road bike in Grantown so got to spin it round the Speyside backroads.
Grantown - Revack-Nethy Bridge-Boat of Garten-Carrbridge-Dulnain Bridge-Grantown.

A bit on the chilly side and a lovely northeasterly headwind and showers on the way back but I really enjoyed this - missing the hard workouts.
Might do this a bit more.
