Two Breweries Fell Race.
OMG! Here's me feeling brave having done the 2000s a month earlier. But a big difference in approach to both. For the Ochils I did some prep and some good long and hilly runs. For this I simply spent the last month recovering from the 2000s!
This is why marathoners only attempt two to three a year!
Felt terrible from the start (very tired and not over a cold), waved off the boys (Doug, Oleg and Cherry off with the leaders) and stuck in at a slow rhythm. It soon became clear that this was going to be a long walk in the fells rather than a fell race. Didn't have the strength to do much hard running.
I don't have much positive to say - it was a really naff route, Ok some views were better than the Ochils but there was quite a bit of hard track and then quite a bit of real mud and then a horrific climb up Trahenna at the end (had to sit down 5 times!).
I cramped in my thigh at the top (after 4 hours) and could not run the ridge and completely failed to descend at the end - didn't have any cramp free muscles to run the road at the end!
Doug and Oleg made errors at the beginning (trusting the route map rather than the local yokels and had to work back to the leaders - Oleg not feeling good finished about 16th, Cherry about 10th and Doug in 3rd - 3:00.
Winner 2:57.
Great to get soup, pizza and a free bar at the end mind!
Forgot my running shoes so David and went running from home rather than work. I took him up to the Gathering Stone and round to the Clan Monument footpath, he was well impressed by what is on my doorstep.
Not that impressed by the huge amounts of mud though!
Another run with David but we did some fartlek over the castle area this time. Some good short climbs. Felt terrible to start and not much improved at end - sore from Sunday and a bit tired.

Kilnsey O event - part of the Aire weekender.
Visited the rellies yesterday en-route back from Gloucester and stopped in Harrogate to catch up with Geoff & Lindsey.
Took this on way home.
A typical Aire limestone pavement area - very fast underfoot (even the pavement wasn't too bad) and justa flat out race with minor navigational difficulties. My one major mistake (40 secs) was lost hunting for a pit amongst pits.
Needless to say Logue kicked my butt with 52 mins but I was only seconds behind Graham Watson which I am happy with. Although I think he'll benefit most ranking-wise....
A run on my own from Andy's. Took the map and ran some new paths - unfortunately they were quite overgrown and nettley - maybe that's why Munro hadn't taken me on them....
A great few days visiting Andy, Rachel, Ollie and Alex - Matthew loved it!

A longer run with Andy linking his local area (Cranham Common) with another - Painswick Beacon (283m). Andy was gonna split after the hour but we got so chatting that he stayed the distance. And actually felt better than I did - right planter fascie sore, itb really snagging.... hurting.
A run with Andy(I live on a map)Munro in the Cotswolds. Very pleasant runnable woodlands with soft paths. Some good banter too.
Great to catch up with the boy (not yet a man, despite having two children and a lady)!
FVO's final WEE of the year at Callander Park.
Took it as an x-c session and hammered it all the way as hard as I could. ceryainly not as fast as I'd like to be going but nae bad.
Very pleased to see that I'd taken the win in front of Magic and ForestGrump!
Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to win the series which Forest had in the bag. More excitement than the Diamond League!
A late afternoon run up to the Standing Stone (the long route) and back from the Clan Monument. Felt strong and pretty quick - might be a pb time for me.
Went to Motormania in Grantown today - loads of classic cars, tanks, trucks and TRACTORS!!!!
Janine dropped me at Nethy Bridge and I ran through Craigmore Wood, up to Carn na Loinne and then across the deep open heather/bog to Carn na Coinnse and down into Revak, picking up the paths down to the road and across country to the river, over the bridge and through Free Church Wood to home. Feeling tired but strong in the legs.
Went to Landmark with Matthew - he went down the big log flume with me - aged just 2!
