Run 33:19 [4]

Easy runs with David from work are no longer easy.

He has been training and is now close to kicking my butt!

New PB for the Kings Park loop.

Sticky

Monday Jun 28, 2010 #

Note

Thought it was wise not to train after all the travel.

Got in plenty of Daddy time.

Re-built the office instead - new desk for Janine.

Sunday Jun 27, 2010 #

Note

Drive to Olso and plane home.

No banquet yesterday - athletes too busy planning their final build-ups to WUOC and WOC !

Glad to be home - Matthew had learnt to walk and learnt to sleep through the night in my absence. Gutted about missing this crucial development but chuffed that he still remembered daddy-the-clown when I returned home.

Janine has been pretty lonely whilst I've been away, but I'm well chuffed with what she's managed to achieve in the wee man.

Note

Supporting the team at NORT leg 3.

A really cracking multi gaffled/looped long middle chasing race.

GG in pieces from earlier races so quit. The rest dug deep and pulled out some reasonable performances in very tough conditions.

Friday Jun 25, 2010 #

Note

Driving from Falun to Gjorvik in Norway via Mora - ie north and west through forest, hills and lakes for 6 hours!

I could have stopped the car and gone for a run in the beautiful forests a thousand times......

Orienteering 30:00 [3]

Middle training on part of the embargoed map.

Green and stoney and tough - I liked it but my mind and body weren't playing today.

Thursday Jun 24, 2010 #

Orienteering 55:00 [4]

Long WUOC training - in the hills.

Great area but really bilberry tough underfoot. Managed to get about 3k before turning for home. Not feeling brill and struggling in the tough terrain.

Wednesday Jun 23, 2010 #

Note

On the road to Borlange/Falun to join SEDS/Tass group led by Ewan McCarthy for 2 days.

Orienteering 40:00 [3]

Middle training on WUOC terrains.

Some nice stuff, some crap. My body wasn't happy today. Felt shocking.

Tuesday Jun 22, 2010 #

Note

Supporting the team at NORT leg 2.

Stockholm Uni - qualifiers - Sarah, Murray and GG into 2nd round.
GG leads his pack into 3rd round.

Gamla Stan central Stockholm - GG cruises to front to win his semi but is starting to look tired.

Final - GG doing his best but settling for 5th - an excellent World Class result infront of a packed and televised audience.

Monday Jun 21, 2010 #

Note

Travelling by ferry to Stockholm.
Superbly pleasant sailing with Smorgasbord and nice cabin and morning coffee watching the boat meander through the islands.

Orienteering 30:00 [4]

Sprint model training in Stockholm.
Got caught out by the fence crossings!

This discipline is way too quick for me!

Orienteering race 1:57:00 [4]

Jukola!

Great to see the mass start and I always love getting no sleep, cramming into army tents, staring out at drizzly rain and getting very nervous about my run!

In the end Ross and Jon confirmed, on the early legs, that it was tough and technical and so my goal was simply to finish.

After a faff on the way to one trying to take off my thermal and put my brightbikelight back on I quickly got into the area. Not half as bad as the model area and it was brightening quickly - only had to use torch for a few early legs then just kept it on to help read my map. Some cracking long legs where decent contact was required and some great ridge running on bare rock/moss. Came across Barrett, Team Skotlanti, on the latter long leg but he ignored me. Saw him again later on and I made my presence felt! Great to catch a legend up and then show him who's boss at the end (sorry Steve, I know you've got 10 years on me).

In the end, 11.7k in 117 - happy with that and 200 places caught up.

No-one in the team had perfect runs - so everyone seems pretty keento return again next year to improve our team position.

Run warm up/down 30:00 [3]

Saturday Jun 19, 2010 #

Note

Made it to Jukola with plenty of time to get around all the shops and watch Venla etc.

The race starts tonight but I won't be running until well into tomorrow.

Orienteering 50:00 [3]

Managed to get onto one of the model areas for Jukola - the area to the immediate west - glad I had - reminded me how tought it can be out here.

10 min/ks, just. Knackered my leg and hand.

Thursday Jun 17, 2010 #

Supporting the team at NORT 1 - Tuusula, Finland.

Orienteering 30:00 [3]

Flew to Helsinki for first leg of the Nordic Orienteering Tour.

Managed to make it to the Model event - a mixed middle/urban session where I ran the middle foresty bit. Great. I like Scandinavia.

Tuesday Jun 15, 2010 #

Run 34:40 [4]

Was meant to be an easy run from work - usual route round Kings Park, but work colleague David was a man-on-a-mission and pushed from the start. I felt tired from the weekend so sat on his tail for most of it until half a mile from home where I showed him who's boss. Not the asy jog I wanted but a session.

Orienteering race 55:00 [5]

Blue course on Darnway. Errm, I mean Culbin.

Had to work hard to pass Hazel and then try to stay ahead of Bex - but I failed after a miss late on. She was moving very well!
Thankfully, I'd had a better start to the race and so retained my unbeaten record. Got Gareth, just. V. tired.

Orienteering 34:00 [5]

FVO WEE on my favourite local area - Sauchie

I love this area, despite the map and Fi and Ross had planned a cracking little 4.3k course that took in some good bits and had some fast running, pleasant sections too.

To make my day, I won!
Thanks to everyone for not turing up ;-)

Run warm up/down 15:00 [2]

Road Bike 2:30:00 [4]

Brad and the Big Boys and Girls were off to do a big ride. Undeterred I wanted to do a big ride with Matthew in the Trailer so I followed their route from Aberfoyle to Stronachlachar round Loch Katrine and stopped at the car park (rather than climb Duke's Pass). After 20 minutes of screaming and me flapping Matthew slept through most of the ride which drove me to kep riding hard and get the job done. Had to stand on the pedals for a lot of the climbs but never got off once.

Top ride, top views, Matthew liked the bit he saw and it was fun sunning ourselves at the cafe waiting for Mum (lots of Woof, woofs about).
