Intervals intervals 1:00:00 [5]

FVO Intervals at the Uni.
Around the Loch. A good evening for it - a little cold, but still shorts weather. Most of us were still knackered from the weekend but we gave it a good shot, egged on by Deano again!
3 x 30/60/90/60/30 with 1 min recoveries and 2 mins between sets.
A tough sessions, esp the last set. But everyone pushing hard.
Usual warm up, drills and warm down.
Well done to Elle for hanging in there. O Mapper even had his VHI map with him for study!

Circuits 1:15:00 [4]
weight:69.6kg

Stayed up in Grantown - fitting a shower screen to the bath and plumbing in the shower electrics. Fiddly work!
made it back to Dunblane just in time to run the session (caught in roadworks on the A9 for 45 mins!).
Another good turnout and people working hard despite a tough weekend.
I certainly don't feel as sore today as I have done - we're adapting to the session!

Orienteering 1:04:07 [5]

SOL at Anagach.
I know this area too well and find most planned course on it quite tedious. this one was no different but it did have some interest. i wasn't feeling too well - cold, lack of sleep, concern over my sick wife so didn't think I'd have the energy or inclination to run well or hard - turned down shadowing Brad - glad I did because on the tracks he would have annihilated me. Ran clean and steady - hence way down on Steve N.

Orienteering 1:20:00 [4]

FVO Training Weekend - Speyside.
Staying at Rotheimurchus Lodge.
Gave a morning chat about technique then went out to Achlean - 3 courses available working on compass and basic skills. Wet. Fortunately we had the tent.
In the afternoon (after a break at Loch insch t shop) we went to Uath Lochans for a course and a sprint. I now know that that map is too bad to train on! Sun coming out!
Good banter, food and wine back at the Lodge with the FVO crew.

Run 32:00 [4]

Just had to get out.
I can't remember when i last had three days off and my body didn't feel happy about not running so I went. Hydro, Holme Hil, Laigh Hills figure of 8 and back. Felt crap, but glad to have got out.

Intervals 59:00 [5]

FVO Intervals at Stirling Uni
A good warm up round the Loch and the usual drills before 18 x 30 on/30 off. Boy, it was a hard session! The 8-person group worked really hard and were keenly egged on by Jon and Deano. Good efforts from the youngsters trying to keep up with the oldies!
A long warm down followed. Top session.

Pilates 40:00 [3]
weight:70.5kg

FVO Pilates session at st Mary's. 17 people turnout! We had to double-up!

Circuits 35:00 [4]

FVO Circuits. Getting sweaty in that church hall!
Includes warm up and down.
Beer and curry afterwards to celebrate Poostick's birthday ;-)

Run 45:00 [3]

A very pleasant run with Toni around Doune whilst Janine pushed young Ellie along the old railway (NB no longer in use!).
Some good sunshine and Toni setting a cracking pace - great to be out.
Just what the Doctor ordered.

Fell Race 34:26 [4] 8.0 km (4:18 / km)

Cashel Trail Race, Loch Lomond.

I went along for the Forestry commission banter and to get Janine out of the house. Sniffley with the cold so took it steady on the hill climb - but couldn't help put go pretty hard. Some fantsastic views of Loch Lomond and a really nice day for a fell race. Wore trainers which proved to be a bad move on the downhill and smaller path sections at the end, but good fun.
Adam Ward 1st, Bob Wiseman 2nd, David Anderson 3rd, me 7th, Trevor Hoey 11th.
There was an interdepartment team prize but only the National Park Crew and FC had turned out in any number so we kicked butt dead easy - won a wooden carved apple as a prize - well nice!

Must come back next year - JS would have kicked the course record to smithereens!

Note
(rest day)

Back still sore, but improving.
Did some gardening - didn't help.

Run 37:00 [3]

Back still giving me gip. Especially at work. Not able to concentrate or sit at a desk for very long.
Had to get out for a looserner and it seemed to work, had a better evening and things don't seem so bad Friday morning.

Mountain Walk 1:10:00 [1]

A walk with Janine up to the Monument at Comrie. Good fun, muddy, dark, excellent!
We're both crocked - inflamed my SI joint driving long distances at the weekend - saw a chiropracter today. Should settle down in a few days hopefully.

Intervals 56:00 [5]

FVO Intervals around Stirling Uni Loch.

12 x 1 min on/1 min off.

With a good warm up, drills and warm down.
I started well but lost posture by the middle and ran out of steam nearer the end - when Abi Longhurst kicked my butt! Big respect!
Great session - lots of snorting and grunting going on!

Monday Sep 15, 2008 #

Pilates 40:00 [3]
weight:69.5kg

FVO's first Pilates and core circuits session.
I was abit nervous at first, I don't normally work with seniors!
But it all came back to me and I hopefully covered up pretty well the bits where I'd lost track.
I love pilates and its benefits - which explains why I am reasonably competant at it. Was great to see so many others having a go and enjoying it.

Circuits 40:00 [3]

FVO session part 2.
More pain. I think I rushed the explanation of this too much and some of the sessions were a bit hard for a first sesh, so will run some level one and twos next week. No need to break everyone in the first week!
Thanks for coming guys!

Run 35:00 [3]

Not too sore a head.
Due to sloping off early and avoiding the seediest part of last night's activities.
But feeling wores for wear after little sleep and non-stop action for the last two days. A light jog at Dalby was all i could muster as I waved the lads off on their MTB day. Then across to Leeds (2 hours) to see my Dad before returning home (4 hours).

I need a holiday!

Adventure! 1:00:00 [3]

Pooley's Stag weekend.
Saturday's activities were a full day's water sports at a Lake near Scarborough. This included blinfolded obctacle courses, laser class sailind and canadian kayaking (sore arms already from yesterday's!).
As the day wore on we got more and more boisterous and I ended up drinking a lot...... of the lake.
Needless to say Chris drank more.
The evening was great fun - bars, curry, bars and then more.....

Orienteering 1:00:00 [3]

FC Team building day - Aberfoyle.
I had organised the MTBO - teams of 6, travelling in pairs had one hour to visit as many checkpoints as possible.
I had also organised s small course on a 1:5000 behind the office - amazingly many teams whizzed round this tricky little course no problem.
Other activities included Canadian Kayaking on Loch Ard's Narrows, quizzes, welly whanging, caber tossing and a tug of war.
No injuries on my activities thankfully - but plenty of wet people on the kayaking and one broken rib from being fallen onto in the tug of war!
I hung and collect the o course, did the kayaking and got driven round (rallying) the forest to collect the controls.

Then it was off to Scarborough, only 5 hours drive, for Pooley's Stag weekend!

Mountain Bike 2:30:00 [3]

Hanging controls for the work's team building MTBO event tomorrow.
A beautiful day for being out - but a rather heavy pack of 18 controls on my back! Very tired by the end!

Orienteering 1:15:00 [4]

FVO last summer evening event based at Dunblane Cathedral and planned by Rog.

Great use of the map, some excellent route choices. Unfortunately it was raining cats and dogs and I hadn't taken a map bag (expecting this high standard event would have waterproof!). So come number 9 my time was up - map disinitegration. Jogged back and then offered to collect about 2/3 of the controls in.

My left calf was still sore from yesterday and I was feeling rotten (I now have a cold!).

Back to Chez Inmans for the group for a takeway chinese and a good blether ;-)

Run intervals 1:01:00 [5]

The first FVO Interval session of the winter!

A good warm up round the University loch and then:
2 x 30/60/90/60/30 with 60 secs recovery. 2 mins between sets.
Running with Ben Stevenson, Jack & O Mapper.
I felt good and managed to push Ben reasonably hard. Sore left calf today but that's to be expected - my first proper session in a while!

Orienteering race 1:03:06 [5] 8.5 km (7:25 / km) +180m 6:43 / km

SOL at Loch Vaa.

Was up for this - a great area, some good challenging orienteering 'n all that. I ran very well, felt pretty strong all the way and should have won the 35s. Unfortunately, on re-folding my map leaving 12 I accidentally thought I'd done a 180 so I reversed and then later on realised that I hadn't done a 180 after all. Needless to say, after running an extra 500m and losing 3.5 minutes I was a bit miffed with myself. Still, ran well and was surprised to finish 2.5 mins down. A most enjoyable run and pleased that my terrain fitness is coming good.

Run warm up/down 30:00 [3]

Orienteering race 16:45 [5] 3.0 km (5:35 / km) +75m 4:58 / km
ahr:172

Scottish 11 Person relays, Loch Vaa.

FVO - Winners!!!

FVO had a cracking first team and I did my best to keep them in the running - went hard around my light green course with no mistakes.

Orienteering race 13:36 [5] 2.2 km (6:11 / km) +60m 5:26 / km

Ran a later leg for Ecko - as Andy Dale (you won't be too unhappy with that will you Andy?!). Ran the orange which was eyeballs out but much tougher underfoot than the lg course and I was tired from some frantic worrying about our second team - which all got sorted in the end, of course.

Run warm up/down 25:00 [3]

Before, during and not so much after....

Mountain Bike 2:50:00 [3]

I was given the opportunity by work to spend the afternoon surveying part of Loch Ard Forest for Mountain Bike Orienteering and I wasn't going to pass it up. I'm staging a foot o and bike o event for the office next Friday as part of a work's day so am desperate to get a map sorted. It was a fab day and I saw Red Kites, Ospreys, deer and got a look at the old O area called Drumore - still fabulous tall oaks with bilberry under foot - must get out for a run there soon!

Race race 28:11 [5] 5.2 km (5:25 / km) +190m 4:35 / km

FVO' s first orienteering relevant time trial at Polmaise - planned and arranged by Jon x and Trevor Hoey. Brilliant! Except I got lost because of my poor eyseight I couldn't see the flags! Even so I ran hard and gave it what I could (not much after the day's biking). Great to see so many people out and well pleased to see that the fittest people in the club are M/W16s!

Run warm up/down 40:00 [3]

Running round the route and hanging tape. I failed to remember where I'd been though! Collecting tape/kites afterwards too. Knackered!

Orienteering 36:01 [5] 4.5 km (8:00 / km)

FVO event at Polmaise.

I was meant to be taking things easy bcause of the team time trial tomorrow, but it's not easy when you have a map in your hand and you know the lead time! Ran well, although i don't think i took the best route to two (I went right and climbed round to drop in from above and it took ages) but the rest went OK - I avoided most of the brambles/nettles getting to 9.

But alas, the legend that is Ross McL kicked our butts with 34 minutes anyway!

Run warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Tuesday Sep 2, 2008 #

Note
(rest day)

About 5 hours working in the garden and being a good houseyhubby inbetween computer work.
Sore back!

Run 1:39:11 [4]
ahr:142 max:175

First day of my weight-loss plan (by training better and eating healthier).

And I'd read Brad's AP about his run from home up Dumyat. I thought this would be my last chance to do this given the nights have started drawing in and FVO training starts in earnest next week so I though Sod it - let's do it! Headed out after work (about 6pm) and got off to a good start up through the back woods and along to the reservoir - then I hadn't thought through the rest - ended up scaling the sluice walls to get across and trudging through some deep grass to find an elephant track to the old Sherriffmuir Road. From then it was easy, approaching Dumyat from the NW side - but it then threw it down and I failed to find a sheep track that took me anywhere near the hill! I was now humming the Rocky theme tume and zig-zagging up the steeper sections to ensure I kept running and that I did. Got to the top in 51 minutes and the sky had cleared and the views were excellent! Mission half-accomplished.
Returning I zig-zagged along the tops and eventually got to the higher car park from were I struck out through very deep marsh grass and tussocks over the hill - not nice ;-( But eventually I hit lower fields that were grazed and runnable before trying to make a bee-line for the reservoir track home - not remembering that there's a gaaping chasm of a river in between! Derrr.
So I had to retrace my steps a bit and head north to come south wading the river and eventually getting through thick forest to the track and home. Not the best of returns but it means I burnt more calories! 1050!
Great run - to be done again sometime!
