JK Long distance St Leonards and Holmbush and Buchan CP.
Pretty nice race, few grotty bits, but generally fast running and some tricky controls. Made a few RC mistakes, but never lost more than about 45s on those.
Caught Kris 3 minutes at number 1! (he had taken the wrong control descriptions and was messing about). He rage ran the next 5 or so controls with me hanging on (not always taking the best routes, but running them fast!). Then I got in front, and he decided to take the path to 7 when I ran straight - he was right and got 40s in front of me (not that either of us knew who was in front).
Ran alone, taking some bad routes to 9 and 11, but caught sight of him again leaving 12. Got back on him at 14, and we ran together into the map change.
No sign of Peter or Ralph at the 2 min timed out section, and I let Kris start about 20-30s ahead of me at the re-start. Caught him up straight away looking confused at number 20!
Then I was mostly leading through to 27, and he got into top gear across the fields, putting 20s or so into me on the dead running. We could see Peter in front too. Kris was slightly out of sight at 30 after the fields, but I quickly got back on him and Peter before 31 with some better (straighter) lines. At this point it seemed they were both pretty happy to tuck in and have a bit of a free ride, so I lead them round 31 to 38, then Kris decided to start the sprint finish early and hared off, only to miss 38 and let us both get in front again.
I didn't quite have the legs to beat them into the finish, but the commentators were announcing me as the JK champion, so that was alright by me! Decent race, few little wobbles on a tricky area, but happy with the performance and the win.
Definitely got a little lucky with catching Kris so early, with Ralph having to run solo the whole way.
