Marmot Dark Mountains A class with Harold Wyber.
North Pennines.
Very tricky navigation. Obviously it was dark, but 12 of the 16 controls were in the cloud/fog, and only 37% of the competitors on the Elite, A, B and C managed to complete!
The time/distance wasn't a problem, although I was getting very tired in the last 2 hours, but we probably wasted at least 45 minutes, and possibly an hour hunting for controls - several times bailing out quite a long way to try again.

Harold had bad patches around 6-8, 11-12 and 13-14. I just gradually got more and more tired and both achilles were complaining loudly on the mile along the road at the end.

Lost a bit at 1 (10 mins?)
Lost a bit at 7 (10 mins?)
8 was ok, just could have been straighter (5 mins?)
14 was horrible - didn't like the control placement (description was knoll, east side - I ran around the (giant 15m high) knoll for 10 minutes looking for it, then Harold found it about 15-20m east of the knoll at the bottom of the facing slope - with the cloud you couldn't see the control if you were actually on the knoll.... (25 mins?)
15 was just weird and we were completely braindead. Found the big stone ring quickly, but the control was a lot higher than we (and the other 5 teams searching for it) were expecting (10-15 mins?)
