Skate Ski (Kingdom Valley) 1:02:21 [3] 11.64 km (5:21 / km) +423m 4:32 / km

An inch or two of fresh snow smoothed out the fields trails. Took cold skis out on the powder with the infamous LF5.

Skate Ski (Kingdom Valley) 30:00 [1] 5.47 km (5:29 / km) +217m 4:35 / km

Around the fields a few times, and then in the Pines picking up sticks from the trails. Starting to snow a little.

Skate Ski race (Grafton Ponds ) 28:51 [4] 4.8 km (6:01 / km) +195m 5:00 / km

Red course set up by Aims, amidst hoards of Bill Koch kids doing their races. Definitely a zoo. Aims worked the courses around thin cover and partially open trails, and we steered clear of skiing over (or getting skied over by) all the BK racers.

Felt good to scramble on some truly narrow trails and navigate the trail jcts. Warmed to freezing, windy and spattering of rain drops.
12 PM

Skate Ski warm up/down 13:28 [3] 1.15 km (11:41 / km) +42m 9:53 / km

Picking up controls. Then to ski around, but the wind had picked up so enormously I couldn't make it down the field. Trip back was lots of fun, however. Sky cleared and sun out.
3 PM

Skate Ski (Kingdom Valley) 44:00 intensity: (22:00 @3) + (22:00 @4) 6.91 km (6:22 / km) +266m 5:20 / km

Did the red course from yesterday (22 min including scrambling down the iced hill on foot). Wind gusts from this morning covered the trails in the Pines with sticks. Really lucky this didn't happen during yesterday's runs.

Then groomed the fields to smooth out the bumps and ruts and fill some holes. Kind of helped, but just need some more snow (Tuesday). Skied laps around those trails. Not worth making more trips up the hillside.

Skate Ski (Kingdom Valley) 1:20:00 [3] 10.2 km (7:51 / km)

Around all the trails after the sprint and the relays. Several laps up the hill and over around the neighbor's field.

Note

Lots of help today for the Kingdom Valley WRE Sprints:

Special thanks to Ed Despard for timing, electronic gizmos, internet tie-in, course creation; Peter & Gail G, George W for starts, registration. Peter & Ed again for dreaming up the format for the afternoon sprint relay. For sure Ruthie for hosting the food and inside affairs.

And the snow God for just enough cover and the right temperature for lots of intense racing by 40 zealots from all over the US!
