Road Running warm up/down 15:00 [2] 2.0 km (7:30 / km)

O - competition race (West Pont Sprint) 19:35 [5] 2.5 km (7:50 / km)

Nominally 2.2 km. Misforked a trail to #1 as it was covered on the map by the purple line. Wasted a minute before got going correctly. Balance was okay. Good workout.

O - competition race (West Point Middle) 40:30 [5] 4.0 km (10:08 / km)

Nominally 3.3 km. Another early error: could not locate rock face for #2. Nav'd right to it and stood on the top edge of the rock face, but could not see it under my feet. In any case, was looking for a face poniting to me, not away. Could not see the tag lines on the map -- figured out later I had my contacts in the wrong eyes. This causes me to loose superfine detail, but not general vision. So a couple errors compounded.

Was saved by G who started 4 min later and be-popped right to the bag. Jump in behind and we battled each other for the next 10 controls.

Road Running warm up/down 9:00 [2] 0.7 mi (12:51 / mi)

Road Running tempo (Chester via PO) 48:24 [4] 6.0 mi (8:04 / mi)

Had a hard run on the schedule for yesterday, but got tied up doing a workshop in Burlington. So went at it today. Pushed pace all the way, but just below race pace. Got one of the goals for the month, doing this route in under 50 min. Worked the long hill back up to the house, but clearly was well under the target.

Note

Beaver resurfaced, so the road kill must have been his little brother. Got a good view of him swimming around and munching branches at dusk. Also have the muskrat up at the end of the pond.

Road Running (Chester via PO/Cummings) 1:02:30 [3] 5.9 mi (10:36 / mi)

Morning run; Casey decided to sleep in. Got to end of Cummings and frigid weather had firmed up the stream, so ran down it into town. Loop across Grafton St bridge.

Ran into a road crew picking up trash along highway. Thanked them for their efforts. Pointed out I pick up 2 or 3 beer cans every run and don't seem to run out; they agreed the supply is endless. We get continual restocking of wrappers and other trash from the McD's 6 miles up the road.

Road Running hills (Rte 11 hills) 4:25 [4] 0.5 mi (8:50 / mi)

Felt good, so ended up with a push up the hill. Didn't want to do repeats, so just hit it pretty hard for one shot.

Road Running (Cummings Rd +) 31:00 [3] 2.6 mi (11:55 / mi)

Morning run with Casey. Clear and cold.

Appears our beaver got hit by a car a week or so ago. No recent tree munchings. However, has been replaced by a pair of mallards and a muskrat.

Road Running (Chester) 1:18:00 [3] 7.3 mi (10:41 / mi)

Chilly -- mid 20s -- and windy. Did Chester loop and then hit Ruthie as I was coming back, so redid the rte 11 part.

Cross Training 1:00:00 [3]

Chainsawed of large dead tree next to the driveway. Matter of time before it came down, so got it now while I could still burn it, although the wood is already punky. Chain snapped during the cutting, which was surprising, but didn't pose a hazard. never did get much above freezing today.
