Ultralong
Don't actually know how long I took as I forgot to get my splits. Very disappointed really. Know I'm not fit enough to last the distance but I just have some mental block towards longs in general (and I definitely don't do mass starts well - completely overshot the first control). Think I psych myself out before the start, lose all confidence and then just orienteer terribly. Sloppiest navigation ever today after being quite ok yesterday.....something to work on I guess. It was still really fun and enjoyable, am just quite annoyed with myself.

Middle race at kooyoora. Haven't run here for a good while - forgot how nice it is!! Had a pretty ok run. One larger miss at the second last and a few other hesitations and bits of being over-cautious but otherwise happy!

Felt like crap all day but then ok warming up - yay! So did 1x1k and then just whatever I felt like...which was just random fast bits and slow bits and yeah (basically a Fartlek). Felt good but legs got tired quickly.

Easy run. Felt really bad and then ok near the end.

Jet lag fun times: last night I slept from 11-1.30am, and then 6/7am to 11am. Needless to say today I feel like I'm in a dream and didn't even notice/respond to a magpie that was swooping me on my run. Haha!

Feeling wrecked. Saturday party night + Sunday "night" on plane = hardly any sleep. Back home and have a tonne of work to do and a large thesis due soon......but have zero motivation to do it so have just been sitting around half sleeping today :/

Flying back to adelaide and uni....post-Euro depression setting in already :'(

Not satisfied with any of my technical performances at wuoc, but it was super fun and a really well organised event so I don't feel too negative about it all....really tough to do five races in a row and was definitely mentally exhausting so I think there's almost no way I could have had five solid races.

Legs cooked from yesterday, stuffed on hills - very slow :( pretty jealous of all those that didn't do the sprint relay and long as well! Technically a little sloppy and then a steep route choice on the long one, which was a poor choice given my stuffed legs. Fun anyway, not too concerned about results anymore. Just here to have fun and practise being mentally stable.

Sprint relay test race

I ran first leg as an experiment because I normally can't do first leg well at all. Today was no exception as I freaked out at the start and ran to all the wrong first three controls as I just wasn't navigating (didn't mp though - just detoured to visit controls that weren't mine....rookie).

Will try not to be too negative about it! A good warm up event.

Morning training in the long model map. Really nice!! Just took it easy and sussed out the green etc.

Training on the middle map. Point features were hard to spike in the vague flatness - need to be really good on compass. And think going around on tracks could be a good idea. Enjoyed it!

Today the start was up a massive mtn (2km with >400m climb or something), and the finish was also at the top of this ridge. So warm up and down was to/from there. I only ran a very little bit of it, but I sure was sweating on the way up - so I reckon it counts as a warm up!

Final day of racing for me. Awesome open area at the top of the ridge - with amaaaazing views. Lots of complex contour and cliff details. I made a few mistakes - including a big one of 4mins :( and apart from that I was just too hesitant and slow. Feel like I don't have much terrain fitness, especially when the ground is so soft and marshy. But not much I could have done about that living in the centre of adelaide....so will just have to deal with it.

Also I fell into a marsh that was up to my hips and I honestly thought I was going to get sucked up and die for a second....took a good while to get myself out again :/

Middle distance day, on a map that reminded me of Sweden (but my parentals disagree, so maybe I just haven't been to Sweden recently enough). I ran too conservatively and was just too careful and not aggressive enough. So lost time from being hesitant and also just generally slow. Felt good running but just didn't have a faster gear for some reason.....anyway, it was fun!! And a really nice sunny day!! :)

Quite a long way (up) to the start

Soooo this was pretty epic!! Really wet and windy on an open hills side pretty well covered in marshes. The ground was really soft and wet, so it was really tough running. The organisers had advised we wear raincoats to run in...which I was dithering about because it seemed a bit excessive, but sooo glad I wore it - didn't consider removing it at all. I was pretty slow, especially at the start (Not used to running on such soft ground, so it totally zapped me) and I made three mistakes of 1-2mins each. Soo not great, but I enjoyed it in an extreme kinda way! Really hoping the next few days are not as wet....

In Dubai....classic crappy overnight flight sleep. Got a seat change just before I boarded and was moved to row 17....was soooooo excited cuz I thought it might be business class, but it wasn't :( it was first row of economy though, so had extra leg room :D

An easy run. Feeling a bit blah, but maybe that's from organisational stress. Also made an executive decision not the take my laptop +uni work with me to Europe....may regret that later but maybe it'll be good to have a complete break!
